Where to Buy my Paintings in Camden Market

in #art2 days ago

You can now buy my paintings at Maddarings in Camden Market. It's a stall on Maker's Alley near Cyberdog and the Amy Winehouse statue. The video above has the exact location. I did a series of paintings themed on the Maddarings shop after buying two rings there for £5 each. The painting is of my hand with the rings on, in acryic on paper PVA glued to cardboard. I've done 20 paintings for this series so far, each are numbered, so get in quick if you want a low number.
Having my paintings for sale at Camden Market takes some pressure off me to always be there. As more people hear about THE CAMDEN MARKET FREE ART MAN, the better it is to make sure there's always a way for them to get one of my paintings on days I'm not there. My schedule is to be at Camden Fri, Sat, Sun 12-4pm unless I'm sick or it's raining. If people turn up when I'm not there, at least they can get one of my paintings. Not for free, but as good as. The mantra of The Camden Market Free Art Man is FREE ART FREES ART. If free art frees art, imagine what you'll get for £10!
Maddarings are charging £10 per painting and the buyers don't have to do the 1 minute interview they would if they got a free one from me. I'm sure some people would rather pay £10 than do the interview anyway. I often get people saying they would take one, but can't be on camera. Now, I can send them to Maddarings. Hopefully, they'll buy a ring or two while they're there.
So Maddarings is an informal test case. If it goes well, I'll try and get my work into more Camden Market shops.
I'll be watching @ronthroop do his version of FREE ART FREES ART in New York. I'm doing England, he's doing America. We closely follow each others work and share how things are going on our weekly BLACK IVORY PODCAST.
To say thanks to Shelley, my ex-wife and Maddarings owner, I got her a Meal Deal from the nearby Morrisons. On the way back, I saw an empty pod, where people can sit and eat. It's not often you get one of these pods to yourself, so I recorded a short monologue about FREE ART FREES ART for the above video:
"Free art does free art. It takes it out of the grasp of the people who want to make an elite out of it. And they do, it's not a conspiracy theory to say that. They blatantly try to make an elite out of it. Why would a painting cost more than a few hundred pound? Because they only want certain people to be able to get it. They don't want you lot to get it. They don't want me to have it. They want to control the market so they can make a ton of money. It's totally unartistic. I won't show my work in any gallery now, unless they're like the gallery that Emma (Pugmire) did a show in, in All Good Books Bookshop, that's really a charity shop. It's not really a gallery. But as far as these proper galleries go, I wouldn't go near them. Unless they said to me that I could also continue to give my art away for nothing. So if there was no conditions of restricting what I do, then I'd do a show in any gallery. But that's not realistic. If you're with a gallery, you get a to-do list, or more likely, you get a to-don't list. Which is what Billy (Childish) and I have found with HECKEL'S HORSE. We can't get the stuff out the door because we've got all these things we're not allowed to do.
So, if you give your art away for nothing, no one's got control over it. Anyone who can be bothered to come and see me, can have a free artwork. As long as they're willing to do the one minute interview on YouTube, which, if anyone has a problem with that, has problems. Anyone can have my work. Big ones, small ones, it doesn't matter. They're all free.
If that can be my legacy, then that will do. I'd rather leave that than any standing in the art world, becuase I think the art world is the enemy. It's not doing its job, so we have to do it for them."
The second half of the video is a tour of Camden's best places to find free, top quality cardboard. I'll leave a deep dive on all that for another post.

This is good! Think about posting in @worldofxpilar. It’s a great art community!

And so is Art & Artists...

Dang, that’s right. I’ll alternate from now on:)

That is appreciated since we do our stinking best to help and support the artists.
Thank you.
🍀❤️

Of course! I’m so desperate and single-focused at the same time, that I often forget those who help me help myself. Will adjust! Here are some cats to wake up kitty:)

Thanks for collecting the cats. I like the first, #5 and the last one most. If it comes to the last one it feels like: never help out a cat!

¡De nada! I have a friends who just opened an exhibition all about cats in St. Petersburg at a cat cafe. I’ve been trying to get her on Steemit for quite some time. Cats are very popular:)

Thanks, I will do.

But... if you sell them what is the "free art man or is what you use all for free?

I watched your video and enjoyed. I agree with you that art can be created by everyone, money shouldn't be an issue. I like how you use cardboard like I did for many years. Thanks for the reminder. I wonder if you can't ask that guitar shop to save the cardboard for you. With us I hardly see any, not in the supermarkets, nowhere. But we do have a giveaway shop in the village. Plenty of stuff.

Maddarings get the money, so I'm still giving them away for free. Thanks for watching the video, and the guitar shop suggestion. I'm already getting as much from the guitar shop as I can carry, so won't risk rocking the boat for now. I like the idea of a local giveaway shop.

Who knows you can start one with a few others?
