@steemitblog announced a partnership between STEEM and JUST a few days back
Some sort of defi partnership was announced by @steemitblog a few days ago, more info on that can be seen below.

Still not sure exactly how it will work for steem specifically or what it will mean for SBD going forward, but getting STEEM involved with Defi is for sure the right move right now.
Defi is hot hot hot and that isn't changing any time soon.
Hopefully this will benefit current STEEM holders, though judging by the market reaction, the benefit may not be immediate.
It looks like the protocol will launch on August 17th/18th.

I would also appreciate if you could invest some of your time and read this link shared by @juanmolina. Especially part explaining our project economy (reasons why all our members are setting up 20% beneficiary on their publications).
ps. My intention is also to ensure, that you understand that our goal is to support with solid upvotes those authors, who not only create quality content but are also active and engaging within community. What I mean: I value quality content, but I value even more those who invest their own time into reading other people posts and who engage in comments with them.

I am really curious to see how this will actually influence here in real life :) But, as I have already said a couple of times, I am really happy to see that Justin is actually dealing with Steemit and trying to take advantage and develop the platform as best as he can!

De-Fi is really a hot space so much that the moment a projects mentions defi through an announcement its price rockets up
This could be a big boost for steem though still waiting for the details to be out.

Both may just have better progress with DEFI being hot so I agree with the other commenters.
That's good news, any type of contract that benefits steem users can come out of DEFI, I'm impatient to see what happens
