Drawing like a pro - 73, Drawing ellipses (Power up 100%)

Hi friends!

Drawing ellipses or circles freehand in perspective is not easy, it requires a lot of practice and also the knowledge of a proper method to do it.
There is a method that can be very useful to help us draw ellipses if we don't have a model to look at or when we need a better understanding of the model we are looking at.

*

-----------------------------------------------

Start by drawing a cube with three of its faces visible in perspective. See The Cube
It is important to draw the helplines behind as well to get an idea of the volume of the cube.

Then, using the method of diagonals, divide each of the three faces into four, as shown below.

To draw an ellipse, do it in four steps as well. Imagine that they are separate angles and you must draw the arc corresponding to each angle. You will see that there are two closed arches and two more open ones, then with a little practice you will obtain the drawing of each arch separately.
Here below, the four steps to draw separately.

Drawing of the other face of the cube...

And this is the ellipse of the top face.

We have drawn a cube in perspective, so each face is a square in a perspective view, so each drawn ellipse represents a circle in a perspective view.

Maybe you could try drawing something more complex like this...

More ellipses as examples in different positions using a one-point perspective this time. See Circles

I wish you a very nice day and good exercise!

And if you like to colour your drawings, I recommend the interesting and useful Color and Light classes of @fumansiu whose concepts you can apply both with traditional and digital techniques.

Using cube with its diagonals really helpful to create such correct ellipse, have never thought of it like that. As to that Doughnut I can see that superficial circle is done the same way but I can't understand how to create external one. I guess, need simply try :)

By the way, Jorge, me and xpilar we h ave withdrawn now from Upvu, We will do manual curation once the delegation back. Just in case if you also would like to do the same.

Hi @stef1, glad to see you!
I made this gif for you.

If there's one thing I've been worthless at all my life, it's managing money. I don't understand what you mean, I remember you advised us to use Upvu once a time ago.

Hi Jorge, that looks great, actually it reminded me a donut maybe because I love them and did not have for a while. Yes, I remember about my post with Upvu, but we just thought because of loosing booming we are not able to support people with delegated power. That is why decided to return it so that more user upvoted with more power. All this things are really a game trying to play and find the golden middle :)

When I was a student, we drew ellipses with a compass. I don't remember how it's done anymore :)
You don't need such precision in drawing and your method is very good. Great lesson, Jorge as always!

Hi @bambuka, nice to see you!
Yes, I agree, in artistic drawing, we do not need mathematical precision, rather we must be skilled at delusion.
