Sketching a man's head in profile, II - Blending process

in WORLD OF XPILARlast year

Hi friends!

A step further in the sketching of this human face is the blending technique.
I forgot to tell you in the previous post the hardness of the pencil used was 2H.
Now, to increase the darker tones easily I use a softer pencil.
I use a 3B charcoal pencil to accentuate the shadows in the deeper black areas, and then use a paper towel to blend the entire drawing into a uniform grey tone.

Gracias amiga @hildegartte, espero que sea de utilidad.

HI Jorge, I used in the past charcoal pencil but it is so messy, not during the process of work but if by accident I touched the surface or put my hand on it. Do you normally fix the charcoal?

Hi @stef1, the charcoals I have used have the advantage that they barely stain the paper if you run your hand or fingers over them. That's why I use paper towels to blend the charcoal.
Still, to avoid accidentally staining the paper, I use a cane to support my hand without touching the drawing.

I usually don't add fixatives to these types of drawings because they are for studying or making some quick examples. I do not consider them to have any artistic value to care for them so much.
