Taking advantage of cheap labour in times of crisis - Social reflection

in Project HOPE4 years ago (edited)

Hello Project.Hope community, today I want to talk to you about a reality, and I have realized in some readings that I have been having regarding the consequences of wars and how some powerful people benefit from all this, later I will talk about it, for now I want to bring to discussion a topic that worries me even more because I am seeing it now.

Wars are a great problem for most people, they have a social impact that goes beyond the limits of those countries that are in conflict. Well, we could talk about real wars, armed confrontations, but there are also some particularities at the moment in terms of considering an area that even when it is not at war has very precarious or difficult social and economic conditions. This can be called an environment of war, because like these it can produce a massive migration of its inhabitants to other latitudes in search of improvement.

This is what has happened to my country, Venezuela.

Being in another country implies many things, which usually are not contemplated, it is something difficult to achieve stability, for different reasons, one of them is that when you leave literally fleeing your country of origin, you do not always manage to emigrate economically prepared to support time without working and that you do not lack the basics, so you need to look for a job quickly that allows you to live. ... here begins a great problem, for many of the migrants who are currently in Colombia, and I speak specifically of this country, because I know the reality, but I must assume, and not with the intention of generalizing, that in many places the same thing happens.

What is it that happens?Being in another country implies many things, which usually are not contemplated, it is something difficult to achieve stability, for different reasons, one of them is that when you leave literally fleeing your country of origin, you do not always manage to emigrate economically prepared to support time without working and that you do not lack the basics, so you need to look for a job quickly that allows you to live. ... here begins a great problem, for many of the migrants who are currently in Colombia, and I speak specifically of this country, because I know the reality, but I must assume, and not with the intention of generalizing, that in many places the same thing happens.

What is it that happens?

I propose it with real values, to exemplify it:

Here in this country the minimum wage is around 9 dollars a day, yes, I know in other countries that's nothing, but here it means something, that's why the presence of Latinos here is so great. The local currency is the Colombian peso (COP), and every day the common citizen earns about 32000 COP.

Well, with the arrival of Venezuelans who need money to survive, like everyone else, there has been a takeover by some merchants, that is, as you know many Venezuelans need, they take advantage of this situation and offer them a much lower salary than they would pay a Colombian. That is to say, they can easily offer up to half the minimum, and someone could surely tell me: not taking the job is enough .

My answer to this would be, if, in part you are right, but if you had 2 days without food, a family to feed, you are being taken away from where you live, would you really waste that one opportunity? It's a difficult situation, very difficult indeed.

Of course, after making this statement, which is something that is happening, I must say the following, to lighten this reading a little and not leave a bad vision of the Colombian people. In my case, I have done quite well, everything has its nuances, but I cannot complain at all, I have met spectacular people, very good people, and they are very honest and above all human.

However, if I have been able to know about those cases, fortunately they are not the majority of the merchants who do such terrible things, in fact, there are many who have provided great opportunities, I must emphasize that too, but the reality is that it seems that there will always be those who want to take advantage of the needs of others to make economic profit from the situation.

This is more than exploitation of man by man, it goes beyond economics, and reflects a great de-humanization by some, who I repeat, are not the majority but can be seen.
Venezuela is not at war, not really, but its economy is in a state that seems as if, as if, the shortage of many products is important.

For now I've finished this publication, I just wanted to share this experience, which generates a little bit of discomfort, not because it happened to me, but I can't imagine being in that situation, and you?

Can you imagine? Have you heard of similar cases?

Have you had to migrate from your country because of economic or social problems?

I felt so bad reading through this post. I remember how I use to travel around just to secure something which I will use to take care of my family and my self. Things is not easy down here too. In my country, minimum wage is around 4$, just imagine the level of suffering we are battling in this world. But nonetheless bro, keep the fighting spirit along, together we will win.

There's no other brother left. Continue to fight permanently.
I imagine you're in Venezuela. I got out about two years ago, I could do it, it hasn't gone badly, I can't complain.
But, if I know of some who have had a very bad time.
Thanks for your comment.

@josevas217 good and cheap labour is the backbone of every country. If the country has efficient and good labour it will definitely help the growth of the country. Check the example of Chinese labour force. They are cheap and efficient.

Hi friend @adityajainxds
Thank you for comment

I'm not talking about cheap labor. I'm talking about the abuse of one human over another. That's my point. Maybe it's a benefit to the merchants to exploit the workers because they get rich, but, I don't see any humanity in this, I think it's the main reason why the world is so bad...
Winning through a business or enterprise is the logical thing to do. But, many companies in the world keep their workers very well paid, and also the countries are well off.
If this reality were good, Colombia would be a first world country, and I can say that it is not good at all, it is a little better than my native country, but it is not good.

My point is that, it is not a question of taking advantage, not more.

In my country people earn minimum wage of $83 in a month and as if that is not bad enough, they are owed these salaries for months without being paid, I really do not know how these people are expected to survive, but life isn't fair and we just have to try until e make something beautiful out our lives and most importantly leave something worth while for our children, so they do not go through the same stress we went through while growing up.

Yes, there are some very unfair things, certainly.
You have to learn and teach. Because one's mistakes can no longer be made by our children, nephews, brothers, it is absurd

It is a reality that many Venezuelans live including me, fortunately I have also met good people who have helped me, but that is not the reality of all, I could say that most want to take advantage of immigrants and do not want us, I also know that many have arrived and have done things that are not good, but not all of us are like that, unfortunately here applies the "FOR ONE PAY ALL", but that only tells me the ignorance that still present many in these Latin countries. I do not justify the bad actions of some of my fellow countrymen but neither do I justify the fact that they want to despise and feel superior to us, because they ARE NOT!

Yes, many injustices @franyeligonzalez
Pretty complicated stuff, but, uh, here goes.
Some of us are lucky, some of us are not so lucky.
Thank you for comment

This is precisely why social media and internet freedoms are so important.

Yes.
I totally agree.
Otherwise, very few people know about it. I don't think it's something they comment on the news freely without repercussions.

Hi @josevas217

Finally I've found some time to catch up and read few previously bookmarked posts.

Solid read. Topics related to technology and economy are my favourite ones.

This can be called an environment of war, because like these it can produce a massive migration of its inhabitants to other latitudes in search of improvement.
Or perhaps you can call them "cold wars"?
Either way, I feel you. We're witnessing modern slavery and migrants are best example of it.

Hello Proyect.Hope community,

proyect? :P

Solid read. Upvoted already.
Yours, Piotr

Hello @crypto.piotr
I didn't notice that detail in proyect... it's already corrected.
Thank you.

There are really lots of challenges involved living in another country most especially when it comes to the nature and the type of jobs they offer to immigrants. It's really not easy working cheap as a labor but there are times whereby one has no choice than to just play along with the flow.

Thanks for sharing this great post with love from @hardaeborla and I hope you have a great day ahead

Yes, actually it seems that there is a lot of contempt for immigrants... in some countries, more so when it comes to work.
I'm not saying that for me, I've been lucky, but that's pretty much what happens.
Thank you for commenting.

Thanks for the lovely reply and I'm glad you're really doing good over there
