    That's actually true... USD became "virtual" currency a lot earlier than other currencies in the world. That was pretty much because even back then value of USD was crashing too low to be sustainable. Because value of all other currencies was calculated relative to US dollar, they couldn't just drop few decimals like other currencies can. A lot of valuables in USA are already privatized so federal government didn't have anything more to sell to boost value of USD.
