Spellbottles and Sweet Thoughts
very thing you’ve been fighting not
to be your whole life. is the very
thing that is your genius.

I've been feeling really great this week, enjoying working on @planetslothicorn and the @steemmonsters game jam. It felt so good to finish a game, even a simple one. I'm already thinking more about what I want to do and how I want to develop that work more. It'll have to take a back seat to my beloved Solarium though. With so many characters done and some great @steempunknet updates, it's time to move forward with the development. Especially because I want to unveil a special @planetslothicorn project soon.
But baby steps. I'm pleased that I've been able to restore even a small curation every few days and start giving crypto to artists again. This means so much to me. And I believe the plan that I've made will bring more abundance to everyone.
So, this photo I'm showing you is from a project called "Small Magics". If I have a word or phrase for my kind of art, it's that. I've always been interested in the magical and enjoying the way that it can transport you, even through the most mundane experiences.
The kind of magic I'm most drawn to is little things - a touch of enchantment as it were. I am drawn to magical realism, rather than high fantasy for the most part. I'll share my installations with you soon, but when you see them I think you will understand more. I'm always trying to take things I find in the world around me and transform them and create stories around them.
Take these bottles for instance. They cost about $1.25 each at the Dollar store. They go on sale every fall for the halloween season and I always buy a bunch of them. I have a pile of these in my closet right now and I love making different kinds of chains and ornaments for them. I don't even know what I'm going to use them for but I just love adding to them and giving them a mystical feeling. The ornaments are made from different pieces of jewellery I deconstructed or swarovski crystal charms.
Growing up, that draw to magical things didn't seem so special... just kind of silly. But more and more as an adult and especially with the DNRS program, I can see how little things like this bring me great joy and really shape my work as an artist. Those things that I thought were so silly are becoming more and more a source of strength.
My strength is not in being classically trained.. My strength comes from the ability to alchemize what I'm working on into more than the sum of its parts. My work is sometimes messy and imperfect. But I will refine it over and over as I strive to bring about more bits of small magic in my life and the lives of others. ❤
