THE JUDGMENT ( Part - 4 Final ) Original story by Henry Aung
The village chief gathered all the men in the village underneath the banyan tree where they going to judge and find the culprit of that shameful meanness for the village. It was a big crowed underneath the banyan tree. The entire village wanted to know the merciless person who destroyed the village name. The village chief announced and apologized to whoever did that shameful manner, to take full responsible as a man. And he continued that whoever witness for that case to verify in front of the villagers without fear for the sake of Rose and the name of the village. A big silent was covered among the villager that even able to hear the water dripping sound from the nearby cooling water pot.
With no other choice, the chief of the village approached to Rose and asked her to point out the culprit. With fear and shame, Rose was crying silently without acting anything. All the men in the village started blame on the chief of the village because they thought that the chief was protecting his son Tan Choung who denied the case. But they couldn’t show any evident about the case. Being no evident the chief of the village also unable to solve the problem. Now, the villagers started to whisper about the case and looking at the chief of the village how he would judge the case.
Suddenly, the undertaker looked at the sky and cried upon a deity to bear witness.
"I, the father of Rose, am the undertaker of the village, and my child was an innocent one. Please, please someone help us". "The guardian spirits please look into this insolence." He continued.
The undertaker keeps on shouting to the sky for the witness from the guardian spirits of the village.
At the time, a woman from the crowed fell down and was rolling on the ground. All the villagers were amazed by the woman. Suddenly, the woman jumped up and shouted to the villager with fearsome voice issuing from the depths of the bowels.
And she said,
"I, the guardian spirit of the banyan tree, am here for justice"
The entire crowed underneath the banyan tree heard that they made themself a gesture of respect to the guardian spirit of the banyan tree by putting their palms together and raising them to their forehead except Tan Choung.
Now, the woman who possessed by the spirit said that it was Tan Choung the culprit of the case.
"I don’t believe you "Tan Choung shouted back to the woman and continued" How you are going to prof that you are guardian spirit of the banyan tree."
The guardian spirit said to Tan Choung, "it was you who dragged the pitiful lady and rapped her underneath my tree on the full moon night of last a few months ago."
"And now, "he continued," you want to deny ".
The guardian spirit of the banyan tree continued warned to Tan Choung," you will never ever escape from me , now apology to Rose and accept her as your wife if not you will not see the sun rise again tomorrow morning. "
Tan Chaung who became angry with shame unable to stand the dagger eyes of the villager, took out his pocket knife, ran with lightning speed and cut the throat of the Rose. The incident was too fast for the rest of the villager to stop him. At the movement, a person ran in between of Tan Chaung and Rose. It was the undertaker who pushed the Rose away and fell down on the ground holding his neck. The undertaker of the village, the father of poor Rose was dead on the spot.
When all the villagers paid attention to the undertaker, Tan Chaung, the murderer ran through the paddy field for his life. Suddenly, the woman who possessed by the guardian spirit of the banyan tree raised her hand and pointed to Tan Chaung. Something strange happened at the time. The entire village heard a loud sound together with lightning that strike to Tan Chaung and his head was smashed into four pieces. After that incident the woman was fell down on the ground and wake up as normal.
And the next day, Rose who unable to bare the sorrow, gave up her life by hanging herself at the banyan tree.
Till now, every full moon night, the villagers could hear the sorrowful soft music around the Nayung Bin Gyi village.
