dirimselcilik manasına da gelen, canlı organizmalarda bulunan, yaşam gücü de denilen bir gücün cansız organizmalarda olmadığını söyleyen bir teoridir.

bu teorinin kökü aristo'ya kadar gitmektedir. modern bilim açısından geçersiz bir teori olsa da günümüzde hala bu teorinin gerçek olduğunu savunan kişiler de bulunmaktadır.
