Market Friday: art work and wall paintings at the Grand Palace, งานศิลปและภาพฝาผนังที่วัดพระแก้ว

This is my entry for #marketfriday hosted by the wonderful and amazing @dswigle. Life has been very demanding lately and full of unexpected news as a result of the Covid19 pandemic. I do hope all Steemians have started to plan for emergency and unexpected situations. My friends considered themselves lucky as I did give them some warning and advice three weeks ago.

The day was so hot, we had to rest under the shade of this big old tree!

I haven’t been out much lately so I have to depend on my fond memory of my day trip with two Steeming friends at the Grand Palace in Bangkok. We did spend some time looking at the old wall paintings on the wall inside the Grand Palace. These were the old paintings done by famous artists during the reign of King RamaII, over a hundred year ago. But there had been a few renovation and repair on these old water colour wall paintings. I am always attracted by the sculpture, porcelain and enamel art work done by Chinese immigrants during the reign of King RamaIII. I am quite certain that I must have lived during the reign of King Rama III as I have a deep affinity with this King, I guess I might have worked in the palace.

Some sections of the wall paintings looked quite new and bright as they had been recently renovated. These were old style painting which did not have the concept of perspective so there was no sense of proportion. The newly renovated paintings seemed to have to much gold colour making them look too strong. The old style paint looked more subdue and much softer than the new changes of painting materials. They no longer look like antique art work!

ช่วงนี้เราไม่มีเวลาไปเดินเที่ยวตามวัดหรือนั่งเรือเที่ยวเล่น เพราะเรามีเรื่องต้องทำมากขึ้น ต้องเริ่มสะสางงานที่ต้องทำให้เรียบร้อย เราเริ่มเตือนเพื่อนที่รู้จักกันมาหลายปีให้เริ่มเตรียมรับมือกับ ผลกระทบของโรคระบาดร้ายแรงโควิด19 มาตั้งแต่เดือนก่อน เพื่อนก็เพื่งโทรมาขอบคุณที่ทำให้เขาเตรียมซื้อหน้ากาก และนํ้ายาฆ่าเชื้อโรคมาได้ก่อนราคาขึ้น และของจะหมดตลาด เราเตือนเพื่อนที่ทำธุรกิจให้เตรียมตัวรับมือกับสภาพเศรษฐกิจตกตํ่าในปลายปีนี้ ตอนนั้นเขาคิดว่าเราคิดมากไปเอง ตอนนี้เขาคงต้องปวดหัวแล้ว เขามีเพื่อนชาวอังกฤษพึ่งมาถึงสัปดาห์ก่อน เขามาเที่ยวพักผ่อนที่เมืองไทยหนึ่งเดือนทุกปี เราก็บอกเพื่อนว่าเราไม่รู้ว่าเขาจะได้กลับไปอังกฤษหรือเปล่า เพื่อนของเราก็ค่อนข้างตกใจ เราก็ไ้ม่อยากบรรยายต่อว่าอะไรกำลังเกิดขึ้นกับโรคระบาด เราคิดว่าถ้าคอยติดตามจากแหล่งข่าวทางเลือกที่มีชื่อเสียง เราจะได้ข่าวและข้อมูลที่เป็นจริงมากกว่าสื่อกระแสหลัก ช่วงนี้ก็งดเดินทางท่องเที่ยวชั่วคราว เราก็เลยมาเล่าเรื่องตามภาพที่เราเก็บมาตอนพาเพื่อนชาวสตีมไปเที่ยววัดพระแก้ว เราชอบงานปูนปั้นที่ทำในสมัยรัชกาลที่3 และชอบงานวาดภาพฝาผนังแบบโบราณที่อยู่ตามกำแพงของวัดพระแก้ว

เสียดายที่เราไม่มีเวลาเดินดูภาพเขียนฝาผนัง เพราะมีนักท่องเที่ยวจีนเต็มพื้นที่ และอากาศร้อนมาก เรื่องราวของรามเกียรติ์นั้นซับซ้อนและมีความยาวมาก เราอยากจะหาหนังสือฉบับเต็มมาอ่านในอนาคต เรื่องนี้ทำให้เราตั้งคำถามว่ายักษ์เคยมีอยู่จริงในอดีตใช่ไหม แล้วหนุมานและกองทัพลิงเคยมีอยู่จริงหรือเปล่า
