The irony
She was eighteen but got the depression of a twenty-five year old lad which was caused as a result of low-self esteem and inferiority complex.
Oh, she was a beauty with brains no doubt as she was easily amongst the top students in the best medical school in the country- so brains wasn't the problem. She had an amazing social life as she was jovial, sarcastic with a good sense of humor, which gained her friends in the real world and lots of followers on her social media accounts for she was a mini celebrity; - so fame and popularity wasn't the problem. She was fair with a face so perfect and beautiful that angels envied her, tall with pretty straight legs and could easily pass off as one of the models for Victoria's secret- so beauty wasn't the problem. But there was a problem, the guys wanted thick and she wasn't.

Puberty did her no good as it only gave her beauty and height but missed out the breasts, buttocks and maybe a little hip which she craved for every waking moment of her life.
Momma told her those physical attributes didnt really matter as long as she had beauty and a high IQ, that men will literally swoon at her feet. Those words she found comfort in until she left for school and then she realized that all that really mattered in the society she found herself was how thick a girl was whether she lacked brains or not; so she cried her way through senior secondary school into the university.
She did all sorts of exercises that were known to increase the breast, hip and buttocks but there was no positive effect. So she started eating all manner of junk just to get fat and that failed her too, her last resort was a cosmetic surgery but she lacked the necessary funds needed. So she resorted to the popular Nigerian saying "once a woman gets married, she did have all those physical attributes". Those words she hung on to, the only problem was to find somebody that would wait that long with her.
Every night, she made a resolution to be strong and never be affected by the constant friendly taunting and jabbings her friends tortured her with. But everyday, she broke that resolution by sinking further into mental depression. As those friendly taunting thugged at her skin, pierced through her heart and made her soul sink further and it became worst as everywhere she turned to, the ideal figure for a lady was thick and curvy and she was none of them.
So she started taking pills- actually overdose of them.

Good thing she was a medical student, so she knew how and where to get them. At night, she drugged herself to sleep and during the day, she plastered a fake smile on her face to hide her insecurities. But, the friendly taunting grew more louder till she was too weak to fake a smile an the drugs stopped having effects on her.
Then, one stormy night with a knife stuck in her chest and sitting in a pool of her own blood, she wrote mama a letter;
" Dear momma, you lied to me. The guys wanted thick and beauty, not beauty with brains. Do me a favor and tell my younger sister the truth".

The next day, her social media accounts were filled with accolades and eulogies posted on her timeline, of how the world has lost a beautiful soul and a brilliant mind. Made by the same people who told her "the thicker the better".
What an irony.
