I know pocket watches are a thing of the past. Nowadays you strap a watch to your wrist, and not just that, watches have become smarter such that they not only tell you time but you can count steps, navigate and even make calls using them.
However, mechanical watches haven't given up the fight. In fact mechanical watches have now become an engineering challenge, an art form, and a quest for being the best and most accurate all by setting gears in motion through energy stored on a coiled spring.
Vacheron Constantin's reference 57260 is an engineering marvel - a pocket watch with 57 complications - time, perpetual calendar, 24 time zones, seasons, sunrise, sunset, moonphase, chronograph, alarm, just to name a few. It's got 10 patents. It's awesome! The cost - $10 million!

You should get one with a see through case back to actually see the movement in motion to truly appreciate it. And they are trying. The giants in the field now also run instagram pages to attract millenials.

True, this was made in 2015, based on a customer request. Anyway, there is still a community for mechanical watch lovers, a shrinking one maybe, hope it doesn't vanish into oblivion. There is an inherent charm to them.
10 million!? That's very expensive! Definitely not for everyone... I have a very old watch that my grandfather gave to me and it doesn't use batteries.
This watch has a lot of great functions. I've never seen a watch that has the moon cycle or that can give so many details in such little space.
It is expensive and isn't for everyone, agreed. It's like a bugatti, where you keep trying to set new speed record, just to show engineering prowess, even though no really needs it
