We Need An Extra Monetization Option for Our Posts on Steemit(Analysis)steemCreated with Sketch.

in #utopian-io7 years ago (edited)

A few months ago just after joining the steemit community, I had made a post asking a question.
I was new here, I wasn't aware of the post or writing inside it, I just wanted to know some answers. So I had just copied some text from their website and asked a question whether they were legit or scam. It didn’t get any attention at that time. I didn’t even get a answer of my question.

Just yesterday when I was going through my old posts, then I found an unusual thing. That post of mine has more than 3.5k views. However, having that much views it still didn't get me any more upvotes or comments.I saw this as very much unusual behavior and wondered myself from where all these views came and still didn't have any interaction on the post. then i stared to do some research to get my answer which I am sharing here.

Following is the screenshot from that post.

And this is the current Stats on that Post.

As You can See:

I thought these traffic must be from some search engines. So I did some research on possible keywords from that post. I was so much surprised with the results I got. That post was 3rd on google's first SERP for Plexcoin Scam Review.

Result from Google's first SERP.

Yes, it's on third position for the selected keyword.

Data From SERPs.com. It also shows the position 3rd.

I was totally amazed by the results. It kept me searching for more answers. Slowly I realized that I wasn't alone here, there are some posts highly ranked in google for specific keywords.

Then I found another steemit post on the same topic as mine which has very large views.

Screenshot from an old post I took as an example.

And the stats on the post.

As you can See:

Payouts: $0.10
Votes: 29
Comments: 35

It has very large view counts.28k plus visits for a single article within 4months of time isn't a joke. Everybody who works on blogging/ or internet marketing things realizes it very well. But that post generated almost nothing to the poster on steemit.I found it more interesting to see the user who posted is not active anymore and this was his only post. Most comments are from new users who are also not active anymore.

I collected all the same data from Google's ranking as I collected for my post.

The post is first On Google SERP for plexcoin scam keyword and same article is in number 9 for Plexcoin keyword.

Then I searched tried to search for most popular content till date on steemit.I tooked a post from steemit welcome page. Steemit Markdown Basics For Beginners. [ I checked Ned’s and Steemblog’s blog too, couldn’t find more views than this one)

Screenshots from that post.

And the Stats

As you can see:

payouts: $28.90
votes: 398
comments: 210

Then I noted these few points comparing data from those 3 posts.

  • Steemit seems to be search engine friendly and many posts on steemit are ranking higher on Google Google Search.

  • There are many posts which are ranked high in search engine, yet they are/were just dust inside steemit community.

  • The community is limited within a small group of people of certain interest and same goes to posts.

  • A Large amount of organic traffic is being wasted since we don't have any alternative long-term(passive) monetization option.

  • Audiences with quite different interest/behavior are not finding any useful contents of their interest. So they are not staying on the platform for long.

    And The Conclusion

Google is indexing posts/contents from steemit wisely, and some of them are ranking very well which is very good for the entire community to gain more attention and users as well.

Coming to the steemit, to be true we earn for an hour or two after posting and votes eventually stop. And most of our posts are completely dust after a or 2 days on steemit. But as we just could see they are continuously gaining a large amount of organic traffic from search engine after some duration.

I used to thought this 7 days payout system is too limited to be creating something new/special then I read some post about the same topic and learned how the steemit cryptocurrency approach works.

But still, time and again when I see the cases like this, I ask myself wouldn’t it be wonderful if could create multiple stream of income from a post on steemit. We can do do it without mixing up with existing 7 days voting system.
Some other way of monetization? More precisely, if we could put some banner ads or affiliate links around our post to get possible continuous passive income?Or a third party application and integration facility for such purpose would be beneficial.

I think It would be the best platform for creators if we create some monetization opportunity to our steemit contents for passive income as well. It would surely gain more attention from a large mass of people who are working online or generating online income to run their life. This way we can gain more valuable traffic of all interests.
In another way, it could always encourage users to write the best copy of their content. This will helps steemit community to produce better SEO optimized /and trending contents for outsider audience.

I have drawn a similar consensus on the matter, I think as of this point, Steemit sees itself as a self-sustaining engine whereby the rise of the token value is where the profit lies.

However, if Steemit integrated, say, Googleadwords on every page, I would imagine just one, and not to intrusive, this would increase Steemit revenues significantly and be of benefit to the Steemit ecosystem as a whole.

The revenue garnered from GoogleAdwords could be shared between author and Steemit itself at, say, 60 : 40 and it would already prove to make authorship on Steemit way more viable in the long term.

I could even imagine it becoming an on-board platform of which advertisers can bid for ad space on Steemit itself on a CPM model, and have the means to have relevant audience targetting as they get to choose posts of which is relevant to what they may be advertising.

Yes, I also feel that way.
I'm quite surprised how you got to my post after couple of weeks.

Was going through utopian.io as I am familiarizing myself with the platform as I am preparing a contribution and saw you post somehow, there isn't as much content on utopian.io so I presume yours wasn't too lost in the mix.

I actually have put down your suggestion on my list to work upon in a more in-depth proposal, where, like in my earlier response, also work upon a funtionable model of how it would be implemented.

After going through much of utopian.io today, my question really, is how much of the suggestions actually get adapted into the ecosystem.

Nonetheless, utopian.io is something that I am pretty excited about and I have decided to put quite some focus on contributing as well.

Don't know, hopefully they will hear and implement soon.

Nice post . I like your post

Read any of it??lol

Agree. There should be more monetization options for the medium / long run.

thats my point too, thank you.

Thank you, very nice analysis. I can't approve your contribution yet because we do not agree on the repo. We think this is more related to the blockchain itself. Please change it to steemit/steem.

Thanks for approval.😊

Maybe the best way is to give only a min. public part post visibility if you are not logged on the platform.. So people are encouraged to registering...

Yes, that's also best option to get new users. On few posts, I have noticed that people were here(registering) just to make a comment on a particular post and then just disappears from the community.

I think steemit monetization should not stop. Perhaps maintain the 7 days delay, but allow the post to keep generating payouts indefinitely. Hope the developers consider this, since steemit has a huge potential in descentralized social media.
