Walking tour: Last of the Christmas lights
I have grown a lot as a person over the last few years. It might sound weird, but I was really jaded and just didn't even understand why people would go and do most things; most things just seemed like a colossal waste of time, and I was always really busy as well as quite the homebody (that's still true..).
Getting sick with a serious fatigue issue slowed me right down, and I've learned in a big way to delight in the little things and take advantage of the simple, fun things.
At the local zoo in the winter over Christmas they do a light set-up with some really cute, locally-sponsored displays. I haven't gone in more than a decade, or maybe even more. Going in the car was always somewhat anticlimactic--as you couldn't really see super well and always felt kind of rushed, unsure if you were holding other people up--but I noticed this year they were offering a walking tour of it on Sunday for its last day, and I wanted to go.
I couldn't get anyone to go with me (including my own mother! She said it was too cold! :), so I said to heck with it and went anyway, alone.
And I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Here are the pictures, which obviously don't capture the magic of walking through with the cold air and cute little kids stuffed into snowsuits and couples out awkwardly on their first date.
I felt like I was right back in childhood.
I have always loved the magic of Christmas lights on trees--the more lights, the better.
Three French Hens. Cute.
Gophers/Prairie Dogs. In honour of Saskatchewan. Hilarious.
The Nativity.
So many sweet bits of magic. I loved it.

Kay

P.S. I would love it if you'd take a minute to listen to my entry for this week's Open Mic - a cover of a song I love!
I love those beautiful lights and displays!
I saw 3 french hens, then 2 turtledoves,
then a Gopher on a trampoline!
Or so it appeared to me. :)
Thanks for sharing these festive pics!
hahaha yes! There were actually all 12 but I just grabbed the 2 cutest :)
You're welcome!
It is kind of rushed when your in a car, next year the walking tour sounds like the way to go!
Enjoy the vote and reward!
Totally! It was so cool in contrast to the car experience!
