Don't underestimate email and password updates
Hacking cases are not only about bank accounts being drained or keywords of social media accounts being taken over, there are times when only email addresses are taken by hackers.
But, can we take it easy if the email address is known to hackers? Companies engaged in application services, F5, view e-mail addresses as one sensitive information, can cause greater damage if misused.
"Email includes sensitive data because it is connected everywhere," said Country Manager F5, Fetra Syahbana, during a media meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday.
An e-mail address is a compulsory column when registering social media, to enter using an e-mail address. Likewise when we will conduct transactions electronically, for example making payments or digital wallets to store crypto currencies.
Internet users also often use the same keywords for various accounts, especially if you have many emails or accounts in the digital world. They do not need to remember a lot of things if using only one keyword for all. Not infrequently, these accounts contain sensitive information, such as a resident identity number (KTP) or home address.
"If you find one, it will leak all. Without realizing it, email is sensitive data," he said.
Fetra did not mention specifically, but, according to him, many cases of theft of money in bank accounts and crypto currencies have an email address. The solution is to update your email keywords every time, for example every three months
