Welcome! Today we will talk about such an unpleasant phenomenon as plagiarism.

What is plagiarism?

👇👇
Plagiarism - stealing other people's ideas, works, thoughts or words and giving them as their own. Intellectual theft, the use of someone else's creativity.

Types of plagiarism:

👇👇
Full plagiarism - the issuance of someone else's work for your own, its publication under your own name. The worst kind of plagiarism.

Direct or verbatim plagiarism - copying part of someone else's work without changing words, using quotation marks or attribution.

Self-plagiarism, also known as auto plagiarism/duplication, is the reuse of much of your previously published work without citing a source.

Mosaic plagiarism - mixing your own and someone else's. This type of plagiarism is difficult to detect.

Accidental plagiarism is an unintentional paraphrasing without a source.

Inaccurate authorship is the misappropriation of authorship when a person has contributed to a work but is not mentioned in the work. There is also a reverse option - the person is mentioned even if he did not take part.

What causes plagiarism?

⚫️ I want to create something, but I don't have my own ideas)

⚫️ There is a desire to "enrich" your work with other people's quotes and ideas.

⚫️ Plagiarism can also be accidental - for example, it is possible that a person once saw something and later unintentionally used it.

Personal experience

It just so happens that I often visit a site where, in addition to good original or laid out by the authors or with their permission, there is a considerable amount of plagiarism - money is charged for reading other people's works, which are often generally laid out by the authors in the public domain on other sites, or for translations of texts in other languages. The disgusting quality of many translations also irritates me - sometimes on this basis I understood that the work was stolen)

Cheating at school or at the institute too, I think, can be considered plagiarism.

How to avoid plagiarism?

⚫️Cite primary sources
⚫️Be creative
