Blockchain is playing its key role in digital divide. I am going to talk about this topic along with some of practical examples so that topic may become more clear for all of you to understand.

If I talk about digital divide then it is defined as unequal approach to different digital technology there infrastructure their skills which can be a way of exacerbating social and economic inequality which is existing.Blockchain can be very significant in addressing some of the aspects of digital divide there are many risks could also be involved with it.

First I would really like to talk about positive effects of blockchain at digital divide....

Positive impacts of blockchain on digital divide

1. Decentralization:Blockchain have decentralized nature which can be a way of providing equal approach and accessibility to financial services, verification of identity, and data storage, irrespective of geographical location or financial status.

2. Security: Blockchain have different security features which can be one of the most significant way of protection of users data and transactions, most specifically in those areas which have limited digital infrastructure.

3. Transparency:Blockchains are transparent and tamper-proof ledger which can maximize level of trust and accountability in those transactions that are digital.

Now here I'm going to explain some of the negative effects of blockchain at digital divide.

Negative impacts of blockchain on digital divide

1. Technical barriers:Blockchain have a requirement of some significant level of technical expertise and experiences so it can exclude those people who don't have skills and proper knowledge.

2. Access to hardware and internet:Blockchain reliance is on at robust hardware and internet connectivity that may not be available at international level, specially in areas like rural or with low-income.

3. Energy consumption: Blockchain have energy intensive nature so it could play it's role in perpetuating existing environmental and economic inequalities.

Now here I am with an example

• Suppose that the project is "Digital Identity for Refugees".You can imagine the organization as UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees)

•Now the goal would be to provide secure verification of identity for refugees by the use of blockchain.

What about its working?

• By keeping in mind example first of all refugees would register and then it would create digital identity at Blockchain platform. After that the platform videos by metric data which includes different things like fingerprints and any personal information so that it make create unique digital ID.

• After that digits ID can be stored at secure blockchain which can only be accessible for authorised people.

There are some challenges still persist

• Accessibility to smartphones and internet connectivity is important, which couldn't be available in all over the universe.

• It's very essential to have technical assistance and training for ensuring refugees can use the platform in effective way.

I want to conclude by sayings that blockchain has the ability for addressing different aspects of the digital divide but it is also important to consider the technical, infrastructural, and energy-related restrictions which can be a cause of perpetuating existing inequalities. Implementation of blockchain solutions require a lot of care of some of these significant factors for ensuring equal approach and benefits for all.
