Part One - Plant Your Summer Garden
Author Anna Hess writes about four main aspects of planting your summer garden - when to plant, succession planting, how to plant, and maintaining your garden!
When: Varies depending on location but most important factor to consider is the frost-free date - when you are most unlikely to see any weather below freezing.
Succession Planting: Some crops can only be enjoyed for a few weeks at a time so plant new beds biweekly in order to see a constant supply.
How:
1. Rake the mulch off the area you want to plant.
2. Make a furrow in the soil of the proper depth.
3. Place seeds in ground.
4. Fill the furrow with soil and tamp it in place.
Maintaining: An ongoing affair that includes weeding, watering, succession planting, and harvesting.
