How Boxing Saved my Life
Peaking at 120-140kgs I got to a very un-healthy stage in my life 5 years ago. Depressed and ready to throw everything away I did self destructive things on a daily basis. My relationships were self destructive, my eating habits were horrible and I really did hate myself.
It wasn't the first time I've faced adversity in my life though, my mother turned to drugs heavily when I was 10 years old. The catalyst dad leaving here but that story is for another day. Mentally, I've always been a fighter and able to get out of tough situations. With motivation spurred on by looking at my brothers and sisters of whom I truly adore. I started getting back into the activities that I held close to my heart. Boxing being the #1. I'd always dabbled in rough sports. As a child and teenager I played Rugby League and dabbled in boxing and MMA. But once alcohold was legal and that partying stage kicked in, my decline in health did too.
Boxing.... It's something that gave me a Zest for Life again. Fast forward 5 years and I'm at my physical peak, I eat amazing, real food and I'm in a healthy relationship that's been going strong for 4 years. As soon as I turned myself around mentally, my life followed. I really have no complaints about life today, not my life anyway. Things around the world need to change but again, that's a post for another day!
Thanks for reading! Has any kind of sport had a similar effect for you?

Great post. I can really relate to your post. I'm 45 years old and i'm in very bad shape myself. I let myself go for the past 2-3 years now. Currently i'm on sick leave from job, diagnosed with a depression. I feel like shit most of the days, i sleep like 12 hours per day but always feel drained. I wish i could find something to turn my life around like you did with boxing. Thanks for giving me hope.
@kaynos the trick is to realise that once you put a plan into action it will get there. The thing that hurt me the most in the past was in-action always procrastinating and thinking, "Shit will never improve". It will man, you just need to put a plan into action. I'm sure you have passions, when you were younger I'm sure you had zest for life! Get back into something you enjoy, meet with friends and try to get some sun. It's important to be social too at least once a month. We are social creatures and it's goof for our mental health.
Be strong dude, if you ever need to talk to someone hit me up.
If you're in bad shape and want that to improve you gotta turn your head around first! One thing you can think about doing that will improve your physical AND mental health is just going for a walk for 30mins-1hour every day, you decide the best time for you. It's good for your body because you're outside moving. It's good for your mind because you're building will power and routine, fighting against self destructive lazy and depressing thoughts.
You got this @kaynos - I really believe in you!
Hey brotha!
I made something, and if you like it, you could return the favor and resteem it for me :)

@kid4life - I got you brother! Upvoted and Resteemed!

Awesome story. I started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu about a year ago. Now at 36 I'm healthier than I was for most of my twenties.
I also met a lot of great guys. Made some great friends that I'm sure I'll have for the rest of my life.
Another thing we have in common mate! @cavemanrob - I've love BJJ - The last 12 months though I've really neglected it to get ready to have an amateur boxing fight! Hopefully that will happen at the end of this year or start of next year! Ill keep everyone updated of course. And ever Rep some Steemit Trunks perhaps! hahaha
