2021 has come and all that happened within that year is all in the past. For some of us, it was the most awesome year of our lives so far; we met people who fundamentally changed our lives, we created wealth that could set us up for life, we engaged in experiences that will forever enrich our memories and bloom in our minds.

Yet for some of us, the previous year just kept throwing challenges day after day, week after week, month after month. We lost loved ones; we weren't able to attain heights that we aimed so greatly for, broken families and relationships, riches to rags and so much more that made you feel like there was a platonic shift right beneath your feet, causing you to into a vortex spiral of unending negativity. Events were so much out of our control that we watched our worlds crumble down.

2022 brings with it hope, faith and promises for those who are broken and troubled in soul and spirit. For those who they feel like they have lost it all, it brings opportunity for a new beginning. For those who had a phenomenal 2021, it brings endless opportunities, endless possibilities. However, for these to be actualized, prices must be paid.

Yes, there are always factors that are beyond our control. Look at the other side; there are also a lot of factors within our control that can ensure that we attain the goals and dreams we have for ourselves.

On that note, I'm kicking off the year with diary games to share how the first day of the year of hope and promise started for me.

MORNING MASS

Being born as Catholics, we went for the usual Sunday mass. Honestly speaking, I slept through most of the mass because I slept in late and mass was by 6:30am.

However, at some point, I woke up during the priest's sermon. The sermon was nice.

He spoke on making new year resolutions and the difference between resolutions and wishes.

He said that resolutions that are meant to make changes in our lives and are followed up by practical steps. I've not really given much thought to my own resolutions for the year but, after the sermon, I was able to come up with some resolutions for myself.

The sermon was really helpful for me.

THANKSGIVING

At the later parts of the service, the priest called out those who live in the city. He then prayed for them and urshed them into the new year.

AFTERNOON: PICTURES, EAT AND SIESTA

After returning from mass, we decided to take a picture together to mark the new year. It's kind of something we do like every year.

Later on, we ate since we did not eat before going to church that morning (remember, church was like 6:30am).

You know that sleepy feeling you get when you just finished eating, it's called postprandial sleep and your boy here is verrry prone to it. So later in the afternoon, after eating a hefty meal, I went to sleep.

GOING ON A WALK

When I woke up, I just had to charge my gadgets. My area has not had light for a very long time for reasons I just cannot grasp. I used the walk as an opportunity to take a walk to clear my head and really think about my year moving forward. There were a lot of things I wanted to change this new year and become a much better person this 2022.

I was able to finally find a place to charge my laptop and my phones. It would have been a really tiring and boring walk had it not been for the fact that I was able to use the walk to meditate and reflect.

CELEBRATIONS

Later that afternoon, my mum, together with my brothers, sisters and I, went to my maternal hometown. Its a place called Mbaise in Imo State.

My mum's siblings were all around and we all celebrated the new year together. There was a lot of festivity there throughout the day. There's sort of a tradition there where every community is to host celebrations from the 24th December till 2nd January (meaning that one community hosts celebrations on 25th December, another on 26th December and so on.)

So 1st January was the day for my mum's home to host celebrations.

There were crowds everywhere and there was a lot of activity. People moved all over the place to go and meet their family and friends in the host community.

DINNER

Later that night, we had dinner. We were all tired because of the outing we went for at our mother's place. Although we ate a lot at my mum's place earlier, we still ate a lot at home, being the foodie that we all are.

PRAYERS

The usual routine everyday is prayers with our grandfather. We don't really spend a lot of time with our granddad so we get to spend time with him during the prayer sessions.
Our eyes were filled with so much sleep and we sluggishly said the prayers. Funny enough, was the prayers were done, we felt invigorated. Haha
After prayers, we all left to just press phones until whenever.

DAY ENDS...

I ended the day on a call with someone really special to me. We talked about how our day went. Sadly, as our conversation progressed, something came up and we ended up leaving on a sort of uncomfortable note.
That is just how life is. Things come up; you try to talk about them and solve them; people get hurt in the process; time heals everything.
After the uncomfortable conversation, I came here on my laptop to read a little and start to type here my account for the day.

CONCLUSION

It was a good day except for the ending part for me. That's just life. Things can quickly mess up an otherwise splendid day. Anyway, it's all good. Hopefully, we'll resolve by tomorrow and come out a lot better.

I'm happy that I could come up with some resolutions for the year, just a few character changes that would go a long way in making my life a lot better.

That'll be all for today. I hope you enjoyed the story.
Bye for now.
