The Fiat Money of Canada - Episode #1 - $5.00 Bill - "The Fiver"
This is the start of a new blog series where the focus is of the various Canadian fiat coins and bills that can be found in the great white north. The hope is to expose people to the various forms of legal tender that are accepted up here in Canada and to have others share what their countries various currencies look like.
"The Fiver"
The lowest currency amount circulated in bill form as well as likely the most common denomination you'll see floating around for change up here in Canada is the $5.00 note.

This version of the Canadian $5.00 bill was released roughly 2013 and features the 7th Canuck prime minister Sir Wilfred Laurier on the face side and the "Canada Arm" and an astronaut on the other. It also features a transparent section which houses a hologram of the Mackenzie Tower on our nations parliament hill. Closer picture of the hologram below!

The bill itself is made up of some sort of plastic which is a bit of an upgrade over the previous paper $5.00 bills in circulation before. So far these appear to last longer than previous versions but time will tell. They do however seem to stick together far worse.

On neat feature is the way they've created these bills the opposing side actually ends up a watermark on the other. An example of this is the astronaut sitting on Sir WIlfred Laurier's shoulder when the bill is looked at with a strong light on the other side as pictured below:

THe hologram shining also pictured below, it's incredibly brilliant given the right light. My appologies for the poor quality pictures.. This was the best one I could seemingly get of the hologram:

I'll try to find some of the older versions of the $5.00 bill for future episodes of this blog series. More than a few variations exist of the Canadain $5.00 bill exist and I'll hopefully be able to get them displayed here in the near future. Stay tuned for more posts!
Hopefully you enjoyed this and now know what our current $5.00 dollar bill looks like! Have a gooder & until next time!

This is definitely the coolest design of banknotes, which I have seen. While we are living in 2017, Canadian living are living in 3017.
They are pretty neat... Just wait, we've got some really pretty ones up here I'll feature in the future. :)
The beauty of the banknote is directly related to its face value? :)
No no no.. I think $CAD is garbage... But they are pretty!
A lot of the fiat money gets an overhaul. In the US the most common bill is the $20. Here in the Philippines they recently overhauled 'every' note (P20, P50, P100, P200, P500 and P1000) all at the same time.
I can remember 3 or 4 versions or evolution of the "fiver" in my nearly 30 years alive in Canada.
Would love to see posts showing your fiat notes. Money and it's design fascinates me. :)
If I can find the old version and the new version, I'll do a post on it.
Every other $100 bill is scented with maple syrup
Or strippers ass / cocaine combo for the others.. lmao!
They dont all smell like it, 50/50 chance of getting one.
maybe that maple smell is stripper residue
Clearly the strippers in your realm aren't as raunchbag as the ones I've observed in mine. XD
Love the polymer bills. When you fall through the ice, on the way to the beer store, they don't get all wet and mushy. 🤣😨
Valid concern here in Canada indeed! lmao.
I've certainly done a similar thing, minus I was just mucking around and not on my way for brews.. Thankfully twas but a wee little gander of a stream and I could hit bottom.
I HATE when I get Canadian coins from a store...
so do canadians
XD
worth 25% less per dollar
Don't be hatin' Look it as a gift from the north.. (worth < a coin of the same in USD... lol)
I don't like how Canada switched from paper money to plastic money, literally.
I'll never forget when I went to Canada and felt a Canadian dollar how fake it felt to me. In the end I thought they were pretty cool though and actually got used to them.
So Kyle, how did you get to 21,000 Steem power? Are you one of the whales on Steemit that votes for garbage? Asking for a friend...
