Bounty $20 +$140: What Binoculars to buy for trip to Yellowstone?steemCreated with Sketch.

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

I am going to Yellowstone in a week and I need binoculars. My problem is i have no clue what to even look for in these type of products.

I will pay $20 in SBD bounties to useful answers for me. I will also use all my voting power which will distribute about $72 more to useful answers on two days.

I travel often and so I want nice ones that last me for a long time and make me feel like I have a very good quality product. Price is really secondary to me. I want to buy a product that last me as long as possible and is the best that I can get.

I like to go on trips to see animals and things like this and will need one anyway for safaris etc. These trips are usually a ton of money so saving on gear tends to not be something I do.

My first question is:

  1. What is a an appropriate price range to look for. I see ones that cost a few hundred $ and ones that cost between $1k and $2k. Is there a real difference in picture quality between these two or better zoom functionality or is the difference simply the image stabilization etc. If there is I will want to more expensive version. Examples for cheap version: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016OK3MK4?psc=1 Example for expensive version: https://www.amazon.com/Canon-Stabilization-All-Weather-Binoculars-Batteries/dp/B00004THDE/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1503276949&sr=1-3&keywords=canon+binoculars

  2. If the answer is: get the expensive ones I see that canon just released new ones that will come out in November. Are these better than the ones on the market, in which case i would gladly wait and simply rent some for this trip. http://www.canonrumors.com/canon-unveils-new-binoculars-featuring-enhanced-image-stabilization-technologies/

  3. What are the important specs and especially what describes the zoom etc. In general what are the specs to look for in good ones. Again I have no idea how these things work, all i know is that on my last safari the ones the guide had really sucked, and next time I want my own. I would love if someone could explain to me how this all works and what to look for.

I am leaving on Friday and will want to make a buying decision on Monday or Tuesday. I will reward any answer that helps me make a buying decision this includes description as well as links to youtube videos or articles that will be helpful. Ultimately I am looking for an actual reference to a product to buy and an understanding why this is the best possible choice.

I found this video very helpful. This doesn't say the brand you should buy, but what it does is allows you to first decide what is suitable for you and what should you be looking at because there are so many different binoculars out there. once you have decided what is suitable for you, then it becomes so much easier to narrow down to the binocular you should buy.

This is pretty great too

You are not going to beat Canon in the image stabilization game, but others will beat their build quality.

The higher grade binoculars are worth it for the durability you are seeking. The pair of Swarovski and Vortex below come highly touted.

Hello mate! first of all if this is not going to be your only trip (you mentioned it) I would recommend you to invest more and find something durable and high quality. You can also go to an outdoor store near you so you can see how they fit in your hands; I think that is important, too.

While doing some research I've found this nice site where maybe you might find what you're looking for https://www.eagleoptics.com/ There are a lot of options there!

Among the options I saw, these ones caught my attention; https://www.eagleoptics.com/collections/binoculars/products/vortex-diamondback-10x42-binocular1 and https://www.eagleoptics.com/collections/binoculars/products/eagle-optics-denali-8x42-binocular

Hope you find what you're looking for. Have a nice Trip, Greetings from Venezuela. Cheers!

I don't have a valuable answer to you @knircky, sorry for that. But I just love the way Steemit can be of use for this kind of things. This kind of "bid for information" is something I really like.

I hope you will be satisfied with the answers you see. That would mean Steemit is really helpful and works in the sense I have described.

why binocular? buy a good camera incl. binoc features - you need to take HDR pics for steemit - that is all you need

Will do that for sure
