STEEMCHURCH: Important Truths to Understand about Anger
The word of God has said a lot about anger.
I do not mean righteous anger, what I talk about is the kind of anger we can experience by channeling injustice or evil and sinful anger. Many times we may feel we are “righteous” in our anger because someone wronged us. Anger mostly involves our sense of justice, and ability to judge between good or bad. But it is actually very easy to slide into sinful anger, hatred, and bitterness which might bring about guilt in the long run.
Some Biblical truths and principles that God has used to help me make progress in conquering my own sinful anger.
1. Anger is actually not caused by people around us or the situation of things we pass through on a regular basis. It comes from our own hearts.
For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. Matthew 15:19
Nobody can make you angry. Circumstances don’t cause your anger. Anger is your own sin, inflicted by you on yourself. David Powlison says
“Our hearts are like sponges”. If a sponge is squeezed and black ink comes out, it may seem that the squeezing caused black ink to pour out. Yet I might squeeze another sponge and have clear water come out. So, it was not the squeeze that caused the ink to come out, but ink came out because that was what was in the sponge. The squeeze merely revealed what was there in the first place. People and circumstances may “squeeze” our hearts & if anger comes out, it is only because it was present in our heart.
2. Anger is caused by our own unfulfilled, innermost desires.
What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. JAMES 4:1–2
James says that our own “passions”—cravings and desires—cause all our quarrels and fights. We desire and do not have; so, we murder, fight, and quarrel. In other words, we want a lot of things for ourselves and when we don’t get it; so, we get angry. Whenever you are angry, ask yourself, “What’s that thing I really want right now that I’m not getting?” once I told my kid sister and her friends to go play outside with several warnings but they refused. Their noise was getting to me and I yelled at them telling them that they were making me mad. My sister replied, “But you said no one else can make you angry, that anger is what you show all by yourself.” I then thought about what she had said and asked myself the question: what do I really want? The answer was simple, I needed some quiet time so I could rest.
3. Anger won't make anyone do the right thing.
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. JAMES 1:19–20
A lot of times we think anger will motivate others to do the “right” thing (what we want them to do). Parents think anger will make their kids do the right thing and obey, or act “righteously.” But anger won’t and will never produce the righteousness of God. Anger might make children outwardly obey, just like little Pharisees, but it won’t change their hearts. Anger won’t produce inward righteousness in our spouse, coworkers or friends. Anger does no good for you and the people you channel it to. It only brings about emptiness and guilt.
4. Anger channeled toward another person is murder of the heart.
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insulted his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.” MATTHEW 5:21–22
Often, we tend to downplay the seriousness of anger. “I was just venting” or “letting off steam or trying to cool off.” But Christ Jesus said anger is murder of the heart and a violation of one of the 10 commandments. It can make us subject to the very hell of fire.
#5. Anger makes things worse.
A harsh word stirs up anger. PROVERBS 15:1
A hot-tempered man stirs up strife. PROVERBS 15:18
Not only does anger fail to produce righteousness, it also makes things worse. It stirs up anger in others. It stirs up strife and hate, guilt and sometimes, shame. It has the opposite effect to what we are desiring.
After the display of anger, you end up knowing you’ve only made things worse and sometimes it may be too late to try to fix it. It also kills relationship with people.
6. Anger opens the door for Satan.
Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. EPHESIANS 4:26–27
When we “let the sun go down on our anger” or fail to deal with it in a timely fashion, either by asking forgiveness, forgiving others, or working things out with them, it opens the door that allows satan to tempt us to bitterness, revenge, slander, and a host of other sins. Cain’s anger at Abel led him to kill his own blood. Anger is serious. We must deal with it quickly and in the best possible way.
These truths have helped me numerous times in facing reality when I’ve been tempted to anger. I’m not saying I’ve conquered it and I never sin in anger but by God’s grace, understanding these things has helped me make progress and grow. I hope you, too, will find God’s Word and Spirit help you make progress in overcoming anger.
So let us always remember that conquering anger isnt a thing of physical strength but only by the grace of God and with HIS help.pray always that He helps you.

Truly, what can take our minds, can take our lives. Thus, anger can only take over our minds only if we inattentively allow it. It's a spirit. But thank God, as believers, we have an comparable "super" spirit that knows all things, give life and freedom.
The Holyspirit calls us back to order, and to ensure that our lives thru are actions are in conformity with God's perfect will and plan for our lives. And to be consumed by anger, is absolutely not the plan of God for us.
Thanks @entralive for the upvote.
Anger is a destructive tool that can destroy the Christian life of an individual, it was Anger that made Moses struck the mountain for water twice,
Anger will hinder God's blessings in our life.
Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. EPHESIANS 4:26–27
God gave us the emotion of anger to help us solve problems and let us know when something isn’t right in our own hearts. Don't let your anger control you, control your anger
Nice post @komzy
If God decide to be angry on what we do everyday, we will definitely not be saved at all.
some times what you think can decieve you and that's the reason why you should always be mindful of what you think every time.
this world people no more give thanks to god they play with god they mock God .
This is the sign that they no longer give respect to God anymore and they only do things according to what they fee is right for them.
It is right that other things of the world may come in our lives but we should always find means to give God the litle time we have to be able to make the promised land eternally
anger can kill your relationship with christ
Anger is natural as long as it does not cause you to sin.
