Our emotional sphere is connected to various types of experiences. They differ in duration, intensity, stability, and their connection to specific situations or themes in our lives. Our feelings are always directed towards a particular object, while emotions are a response to some external situation. We can love someone (a feeling), but in a specific situation, we might feel anger (an emotion) towards them. The most intense but short-lived emotional states are affects, while the most stable are feelings. Mood is also an emotional state that holds a special place in our system of experiences. It represents our basic emotional backdrop over a certain period. It influences our mental processes (sensation, memory, thinking), our perception of the world, and our assessment of the things that happen to us, as well as our behavior.

The word "mood" itself largely contains the essence of the concept - to tune in or synchronize with something. We say we're in the mood for something when we feel energized and eager to do it. When we're irritable, it becomes hard to relax and stay calm, and when we're feeling low, having fun is difficult. As our mood significantly impacts our lives, it’s crucial to differentiate it from other emotional states and learn effective management techniques. While closely intertwined, emotions and moods are distinct phenomena. They are part of our inner world, experienced internally, and expressed through our behavior. Emotions are shorter-lived states. They are something we cannot control - we simply experience them: anger, sadness, joy... They are visible - they manifest in certain facial expressions and changes in voice that are hard to control. They can always be linked to a specific event. Mood, on the other hand, strongly depends on our personal experience - what has happened to us and how we have dealt with it before. Each of us "colors" our reality with what we have experienced or learned in the past, which is why the same event can create completely different moods in us and another person.

Mood is something we can influence and change - we have control over it. It can remain hidden from others if we choose, making our moods personal. We are always in one mood or another, "good" or "bad," but we may not always be able to explain why. It can be said that our emotions signal the state of the world around us, while our mood signals the state of ourselves. The main thing is that our moods depend greatly on our way of thinking and experiencing events. They are related to our attitudes towards life, personal experience, and expectations. What makes them difficult to manage is understanding the reason we feel a certain way.

Our mood is influenced by our physical condition (whether we have slept well, our diet, any pain or discomfort we feel, etc.), our perception of our physical and psychological resources at the time, our relationships, and our attitude towards ourselves. There are numerous actions we can take to enhance our mood. They always involve some form of self-care - whether for our body, our relationships, or our activities. We can give ourselves something pleasant for the senses - delicious food, uplifting music, pleasant scents, a walk in nature... But perhaps the most important thing is to build a healthy inner attitude – the way we approach what happens to us and how we view ourselves. We should learn to be kind and supportive to ourselves, have more confidence in our abilities, and act bravely!

What mood are you in today?

Sort:

Right now I'm in the mood to spread engagement. I found your post as my content was featured in The Blog Spotlight by @steemitbloggers the same like yours.

I know the meaning of the word mood, but the way you defined it reminded me of what it really is. And truly, it tunes in and synchronizes to what we feel strongly about.|

On the early days of my journey here on Steemit, I found it hard to navigate my way through being noticed like others. I was torned and left trying out various things to be where others have reached. And the disappointments and depressions led me to come and go. There are days, I would feel like writing but there were more days that I didn't even try to remember writing. (because at that time it felt like a competition of some sort)

Although, these moods could greatly contribute to unfortunate circumstances like that, I take it as a learning experience. A simple change in mood could let you experience something you would have never expected. Isn't that something to ponder?

If you’ve faced failure, it means you had the ambition to achieve something, which led you to this point. The fear of failing is so strong that many people prefer not to attempt anything, just to avoid looking foolish. If you felt like a loser because you didn’t succeed, it means you had the bravery to confront a challenge. Remember, that courage is still within you, even if things didn't go your way. Appreciate your effort to try, and keep in mind that this same spirit will drive you as you continue to push forward and try again until you achieve your goal! ; )

Appreciate the mention @imawreader - thank you! Glad you seem to be enjoying some of my curated content and adding value to them through the sharing of your thoughts! :)
