Steem Cameroon Contest - Earth Day(Nigeria)

My friends of the Steem Cameroon community, I'm happy to join you in this contest today. I went through the disconnect page to search for an easy to do contest and I came across this lovely contest hence I decided to give my entry in the contest.

What do you know about the day? (Make sure you mention the actual date) (50 -100 wards)

Today I want to talk about the national day of Nigeria. I'm talking about the day Nigeria got her independent I.e on the 1st of October 1960. Before this time, we were colonized by the British but the people of Nigeria got her freedom on the 1st day of October 1960.

Before the independence the British people ruled us and they are the once who make appointment. When we finally got the independence, our pro ppl e began leading themselves. Since that very day till this moment, 1st October is still seen as a memorial day for Nigerians all over the world.

How do you or your country or your organization celebrate the day? (50-100 words)

On every occasion of this celebration, the country declear a work-free day for all I.e it is a public holiday and to add to that, there are always things like match pass or dance organised by the states and the federal government to mark that wonderful celebration.

This match pass or dance is done in such a way that various local governments who are not close to the capital will organise their and school around will train their student for the task. The people that perform the most in the various occasion will be given prize.

What impact does your community gain during and after the commemoration? (50-100 words)

In most cases, it is a period where those in authority tends to do something tangible for the community. During this period, we see different people who have gotten one appointment or the other coming and fulfilling their promise because if they do not, they won't be voted again. So it's a day of sobar reflection where we see those in office performing the task they promise.

What issue or concern will you recommend to be commemorated this week and on what date?

Nigeria has suffered greatly I the hands on terrorist. If I'm to chose a day that should be commemorated, it will be the 20th of October which was the day Nigerians were massacre during a peaceful protest. It is indeed a day where those who claim to be leaders showed their true colour.

This day reminds us as Nigerians that even till this day, we are still suffering in the hands of our own people and we need to be completely free. So I will recommended that such a day is celebrated every year.
