The Sandwich Brotherhood
When Mr. K was a student, he went through so many hardships that some of them left a mark on him that still lingers to this day.
He bore reasonably well having to get around everywhere on foot, instead of hiring a carriage like his classmates did.
Living in a run-down attic room in one of the worst boarding houses in the city couldn't break his spirit either, because he knew better days lay ahead.
But what did leave him with a lifelong trauma was the food. Since as a young man he couldn't afford to hire a cook — he didn't even have a kitchen — and eating at restaurants would have eaten up his meager scholarship, which barely covered his room and books, he had to make do living on tuna sandwiches.
That's why, in his mansion, it was forbidden to so much as utter that word, and everyone was warned that if he ever saw the next sandwich of tuna in his residence, it would go flying straight at the wall, and whoever had made it could consider themselves fired.
What Mr. K never knew was that this express prohibition generated such a craving for the forbidden food that all his employees held a clandestine monthly gathering in the basement, where the menu was, obviously, tuna sandwiches.

I wonder if a daily sandwich with tuna could be boring. The bread yes, the tuna?
This BOOMING vote is yours and well deserved!

It's autobiographical, haha, I can assure you it's boring!
Thanks a lot for your support 😊
Haha...human are always like that. The more we are not supposed to have certain things the more we would crave for it.
I also have my share of 'tuna sandwich' because of certain reason. Took me a lot of effort to get passed through 'trauma' to be able to eat them like any other person again

That's how we are; the forbidden attracts us, and what's available loses its appeal.
For a long time when I lived alone I had neither the time nor the desire to cook, and a can of tuna was a practical and quick solution, until I couldn't eat it anymore haha.

Scarcity affects our eating patterns, too! When you have to share food and maybe don't have enough for everyone, it makes it seem tastier and you naturally want more. At least a tuna sandwich is better than what I tend to reach for as a quick meal: a cup of noodles!
That's true, and we should start planting a garden!
I think those noodles are called ramen; they're delicious and ready in 5 minutes. When I had a kitchen, they were my specialty, haha.

Yes, they often go by that name. We have so many instant ramen experts from around the world. You can throw in whatever you like too. Vegetables, eggs, sausages...
I saw the movie Ramen Girl, and it seems that cooking Ramen is a tradition as well as an art form. Without a doubt, oriental food is very original and delicious.

I've never watched Ramen Girl, I'll have to look it up! There's a new one on Netflix called Manpuku about the origin of instant ramen, by the way.
Also, the last time you mentioned Pluto TV, I saw some updates yesterday. Sailor Moon is showing if you're interested.
I can agree that cooking actual fresh ramen is an art. As for the instant ones, I'd call mine experiments, hehe!
There's a lot of amazing Asian food just like Western food; there's delicious food for me from every corner of the world.
Thanks for the info! For now, I'll have to make do with free platforms, haha.
By the way, were you finally able to access Pluto TV? It usually has good movies and series.
Sailor Moon could be the perfect choice to introduce me to the world of anime, thank you!

Tuna sandwiches are yummyyyy! But too bad it has left a scar in Mr. K's memories of it. Although I would think that it would have made you appreciate it more since it helped him through life? Sometimes in movies, the character who became well to do, would look for the very simple foods or things that they grew up with as someone who was poor. Is this the same Mr. K as your previous story, the ex soldier artist?
The truth is, the tuna sandwich thing happened to me, haha...Let's just say that eating so much tuna made me develop a certain aversion. In fact, I only recently started eating tuna again after a 20-year Avoiding it!
Mr. K is a character I borrowed from Kafka. It's not always the same character, but he's usually the protagonist of my writings, hehe.
Oohh 😂Sorry to read this. Eat other fish or seafood or meat. Don't have to eat tuna. But you know what, I do realize that if we ate too much of something, we can get some form of allergy literally.
Aaahhh hehe. Ok, sorry, I had to Google "Kafka".. the author right? Sorry, I don't read much (shy). Glad you have a protagonist in your writing! At least juices can flow when you most need it to hehe. I think I need to find mine too haha.
Whenever possible, we eat fish at home; the strange thing is that there are no fishermen in my area, or perhaps there aren't enough fish.
Anyway, I'm stockpiling tuna and sardines in case World War III breaks out soon, hehe.
I find it convenient not having to think of different names for the stories; I think that saves me time, hehe.
Hehe good idea, saves time on character names and can focus time on the story.
Heyyyyy, we are doing the same too! We stocked up on M.R.Es and canned foods of course plus bags of rice and instant noodles. Just in case. Hahaha.
Yes, haha, more history and less name confusion! Lol!
I was watching survival channels and it says you have to start buying everything from batteries to water purification tablets. Just in case!
