Dear "toofasteddie" i think you should really compared your BTC-GRC rates to the Dollar-BTC rates. At the moment most of the crypto currency are coupled strongly coupled to the BTC value.
So, if your points a, c, e are coincide with a value drop in BTC (in relation to Fiat) why should one sell or buy? Unless one want to maximize its BTC or GRC amount. If one believes in GRC its rather good to hold or spend it for goods / services and so on.

Of course, all the altcoins have to be compared with the BTC pair, this is not a particular problem of GRIDCOIN. Take into account that the majority of the people is trading altcoins just to maximize their BTC earnings.

Sorry, i did not make clear that understand how GRC works. Actually i earned my first GRC in 2015. Thats why i wanted to point out that we should also try to establish GRC as usable currency. Not only as a vehicle to trade collect more GTC. It would be a shame if the great concept ("mankind developement") of GRC if only used for profit.
