Akaka Falls~ Big Island Hawaii

With an over 400 foot drop along an incredible jungle moss covered gorge this fall is intense! The area is easy to access through a moderate walk within a state park about 10 miles north of Hilo.

The hike takes you up through small lower falls with peekaboo jungle canopy viewing. The sound of water rushing is with you through the 4 mile loop almost entirely.

A lush tropical landscape filled with monkey pod trees in never ending jungle vines and exotic flowers lines the pathway.

Looking down into the gorge below mist blows up all around. The power of the falls made me feel so shaken in the present with life! It's truly impressive.
