SEC-S10W1: "What one thing would you want to delete from the Earth?".
Hello and welcome to this new season of SEC . We have a lot of innovative themes to engage on and in this connection I am here to write a blog post for Steem For Bangladesh community which is about deleting one thing from earth.
If you had the power to permanently delete one thing from the Earth, what would it be and why?
Our planet Earth is a reflection of human character, and when we talk about deleting something from the Earth, it would definitely be some human attribute that has created a lot of chaos on Earth.
If I had the power to delete one thing permanently from the Earth, I would delete greed. Greed is an excessive desire for power, wealth, possessions, fame, etc. These materialistic goals have overshadowed the ethical and moral values of humans, and people are so indulged in achieving these things that everything else has become immaterial.
I believe greed is the root cause of all evils, such as corruption, immorality, murders, devaluation of blood relationships, drug peddling, anxiety, and depression.
The greed for becoming millionaires or billionaires overnight causes people to resort to illegal activities like money laundering, drug peddling, tax evasion, corrupt business practices, online money theft, etc. Similarly, the greed for power leads people to engage in illegal activities like corruption, bribes, murders, poll rigging, fake promises, and deception.
How will its absence have a positive impact on society, nature, and mankind? Explain.
Having mentioned some ill effects of greed on society, its deletion would definitely have a positive impact on society, nature, and mankind because the secondary ill effects that result from greed would also be eliminated. I believe we would have a more reliable and peaceful environment to live in.
We would have an equitable and just society to live in and venture around. The greed for wealth makes rich people richer and poor people poorer. The unfair influence of so-called rich people and the greed for accumulating further positions make society unfavorable for the underprivileged sections. By eliminating greed, resources and opportunities would be equally available for all sections of society, resulting in an equitable and just society, isn't it?
I believe it is because of greed that we have started the overexploitation of certain hidden treasures on Earth, such as forests, metal mines, water bodies, soil, sand, rocks, etc. These treasures within the Earth are necessary for the survival of human beings in the long run. The overexploitation of these resources for selfish interests by humans has created an unsustainable environment, which is a serious threat for future generations. So, the elimination of greed would create a sustainable environment for all of us and for our descendants.
One of the biggest advantages that I can state is the development of better human relationships filled with sympathy and empathy. We have been blinded by the greed of materialism, and human relations have lost their value for us. It is because of greed that we prioritize our own interests over the needs of others, and the concept of shared interest lacks meaning for us. I believe that with the elimination of greed, our social relations will be strengthened, and we will all work together in a more cordial and peaceful environment.
What can we substitute for it that has the power to resist all subsequent devastation?
We have many positive qualities to substitute for greed so that subsequent devastations can be prevented. For example, we can foster a sense of self-sufficiency, contentment, and gratitude. We need to create an atmosphere of love and affection so that social relationships are valued, and all human beings work towards the growth of all, contrary to the current situation where each individual works tirelessly to outpace others. It is possible to achieve such goals through better education and social policies.
We would need to inculcate values like empathy, strengthen social connections, learn to value blood relations, promote collective well-being, and make efforts to promote sustainable development in terms of both biotic and abiotic components of the environment.
