📷Odessa history past and present. Quarantine Wall and Powder Tower
Take a walk through the streets of the city, and you, as if returned back to the past...I propose to take a walk in historical places
The quarantine arcade and the Powder Tower are located on the Suvorov avenue of the park. T. Shevchenko in Odessa is here
In 2014, the arcade and the Powder Tower were restored, they tried to restore it as it was before.
Let's get closer ... How many secrets, stories these walls conceal ... Almost 224 years passed after its construction.
Odessa was not yet, but there was a settlement KhadjibeyAnd fortressYeni Dunya,Built in 1764 located on the shore of the bay near the Turkish settlement. Here is what the story says: :
In 1789, Russian troops captured the fortress of Yeni Dunya. The Turkish fortress was destroyed and ceased to exist, but the Russo-Turkish war did not stop.
In 1793, they began to build a new fortress to protect the coast and control the sea access to the port. There were 5 bastions and 120 guns. Surrounded by ramparts and moats. The garrison of the fortress consisted of 2 thousand soldiers and officers.
In 1807, a quarantine was built. It was a long wall and two towers along its ends, two more walls down to the Quarantine harbor.
In 1811 the Fortress buildings and the territory of the fortress were handed over to Quarantine
There was not a single gunshot! :)
