Today's, the technology in the world is increasingly sophisticated. We can feel all the benefits that exist with this technology, or we can call it smart technology. This smart technology is also increasingly developing to create new breakthroughs that will really help its use in our daily lives, and one of them is the IoT (Internet of Things).

IoT itself has been developed for a long time by world technology developers, but as I said that with the development of smart technology in the world, the name IoT has also become increasingly popular in the ears of the public.

Explain in your own words, what is IoT?

IoT is the acronym for Internet of Things. This is an advanced technology that is here to facilitate human work. IoT itself is a concept that is applied in technologies that are present around us in the form of a sensor object or software that aims to connect, communicate and also control this technology by having internet access to it.

IoT is also a technology that is used to allow exchanging data or signals with each other which makes it easier for humans to do their jobs, which makes life simpler and can also shorten a lot of time by reducing the risk of doing it.

Let's look at some examples of IoT technology that are around us and we even use in our daily lives. Example, is a floor cleaning machine. This floor cleaning machine is equipped with a sensor device and also a remote control that is connected directly to the smartphone so that we don't have to keep an eye on this machine all day long. We can sit and drink coffee and monitor it via cellphone. This greatly facilitates the work of housewives, saves time and energy or we can do other things.

Another example, is the installation of security cameras (CCTV). We can monitor the entire area with a device that is connected directly to our computer or cellphone, we can turn on, turn off and even rotate the camera direction according to our wishes. Apart from that, other examples are remote monitoring such as air conditioners, refrigerators, night lights, to the gate of the house.

We can see how the traffic lights, which are currently also implementing IoT technology, will be installed according to the time. And this has been installed and adjusted to the needs. This technology has provided many benefits for our lives.

What impact does the blockchain have on the Internet of Things?

Blockchain has had a big impact on our daily lives, we all know how blockchain works, it is decentralized in that data and whatever is in it cannot be changed, can only be updated without changing previous data. Well, if advanced blockchain technology has on the Internet of Things then this will create a greater advantage for life such as building trust, reducing costs, and accelerating transactions.

In addition, the level of security and accuracy of a process of exchanging data, storing data and providing information will be more accurate and reliable. We can see all the history of this sharing properly without losing any information in it, because this cannot be changed, it can only be updated without changing the previous history.

For example, we can see in the installation of CCTV. Blockchain if applied to this matter will have a higher security accuracy system where if there is a case incident then this can be used as accurate evidence. It would be impossible for the suspect to get rid of traces or erase datata, because it is impossible to delete hundreds to thousands of blockchain devices that are installed, as we know that the blockchain has blocks that if one block is changed it will change to other blocks. So it would be impossible for him to refute a piece of evidence.

Like other technologies, these two advanced technologies have drawbacks such as data theft or hackers trying to hack the operating system of these technologies, we must protect all installation keys safely. But still that the advanced technology of our time has given us more benefits than the disadvantages it has caused.

What benefits does blockchain offer to the Internet of Things?

As we know that the blockchain is a ledger that stores data securely and cannot be changed. Blockchain itself is an advanced technology that has been used and developed in various features and even large companies around the world. And it also affects the features of IoT, this can also be seen in our daily lives.

Well, decentralization is the basis for using blockchain technology. We know that IoT is a technology that exchanges data and information from one device to another using the internet network. Now, with the decentralized nature of the blockchain, it will eliminate third parties where data will be easier to send, exchange and also faster, safer and better than without using the blockchain.

The presence of blockchain in IoT technology can add a layer of security where no one party has control over the data that is in IoT so preventing malicious attackers from gaining access to the network, this will be very difficult. As we know that IoT will share data and information with the recipient so that the presence of the blockchain will make it safer, of course without changing any information in it so as to increase the good trust of the recipients.

The time used to exchange two devices has no centralized party. Between blockchain and IoT will share and exchange all related information directly so that it will speed up the process until it reaches the user. And in the absence of a central authority, all performance will be more conducive and efficient.

Explain two applications of IoT and blockchain

In this sophisticated modern era, almost everything is currently using smart devices such as IoT to simplify all human work and make it simpler, safer and faster. So, this time I will break down two examples of applications of IoT and blockchain, as follows;

Currently, since the pandemic hit, it has become more widespread with trade and even the supply of counterfeit drugs throughout the region without any party taking responsibility for the consequences.

With IoT added to blockchain technology, things like this will rarely or even be impossible to happen. Every factory, company, supplier and even drug delivery to hospitals, will be able to know the data with accuracy and certainty because all data displayed cannot be changed, and if drug fraud and counterfeiting occurs to the point where it takes a victim, the parties involved in the gap will be known and certainly with valid evidence that can not be avoided.

Usually the sector that handles the movement of goods will take a long time because it has to go through various parties. Shipping goods is very complicated and requires other people to be delivered, making the goods shipping sector sometimes have to experience a lot of problems and also spend a lot of money for just one delivery.

Now, with the help of blockchain-enabled IoT, all parties will trust the data that is input, the status and destination of goods delivery. Goods that arrive do not need to be reloaded, all parties involved will trust them, goods can be stored with a high level of security, goods also arrive faster and goods can be stored at the right temperature, so that the goods will be fine until they arrive at their destination. This will memshorten time and save cost, it's just like shipping container goods which usually takes a long time.

Explain a blockchain project that relates to IoT.

With the development of blockchain and IoT technology, there are many blockchain projects that relate to IoT. This is because blockchain is decentralized, high level of security, transparency, and saves time and costs. And now I will introduce one of the blockchain projects that relates to IoT, namely Vchain.

Vchain is a project that is carried out with a combination of the IoT concept and blockchain technology designed to improve business management adopted by large companies, especially those engaged in the fashion, food industry, to shipping goods.

Vchain works by providing a smart chip that functions as a sensor and as a record. This sensor and recording will later record all information from its environment and upload it to its blockchain. This smart chip is implemented in the form of QR code, NFC and RFID tag so it will be highly protected even if someone takes the chip then changes the product tag, then this device will stop working by itself.

Vchain also has two tokens that have their respective functions;

• VeChain Token (VET) which is used to fund the blockchain
• VeChainThor Energy (VTHO) which is used as a booster or enabler of the blockchain

The main vision of Vchain is to grow strong for ICO (Initial Coin Offering) and become a leader among blockchain based devices that relates to IoT. Currently Vchain is growing and has collaborated with large companies to increase integrity and show us that this project will really help people in any industry.
