A quick scenery ballpoint pen art
This is my very first time making such a complicated ballpoint drawing. Unlike my previous drawings, which I just focused on a particular subject. This time, I want to try something new, something that can be challenging.
Drawing just one object could be already hassle, and how much more if it includes a landscape?
So here it is!
This quick ballpoint sketch is a representation of my friend, @pauloremedio's photograph which was posted here.
Here's the reference photo
I really love how this amazing picture was captured. And what's even more amazing is that this was only captured by a smartphone.
What were the tools used?
No expensive and luxurious tools needed!
You'll just need a ballpoint pen, any ballpoint pen will do as long as you are comfortable using it.
What were the techniques used?
In this drawing, I used hatching and cross-hatching techniques. These two are the most common among all other techniques for it is really essential in creating ballpoint drawings with emphasized tones.

And actually, I included some of the ballpoint techniques in my previous post which was about A short Time-lapse video for a quick ballpoint pen art : "Not so Grumpy" GrumpyCat.
How this ballpoint art was done?
I had a hard time starting this drawing because I was not pretty sure when and how to start it. But eventually, I learned about it.
Here's the process by the way 😊
1. Outlining/sketching
In this part, I started to sketch the figures and the things to be emphasized later on.
2. Applying the ink
This time, after sketching I then put some details. I started to add emphasis to some distinct parts.
3. Shading
In this part, I focused on the hatching and cross-hatching shading. But first, On the hand holding the plastic cup. I first added the first layer.
I then added the second layer. This is to emphasize the tone of the shading.
The third layer
The fourth layer and so on and so forth.
4. The shading of the cup
Same as with how the arm was shaded, I started with the first layer up to how many times it will be darken.
Then...
5. The Background - first layer
In this part, I started adding the first layer to the background. The first layer would be the second of the lightest color in the reference photo. The part with no shade is the lightest.
6. The Background - the second layer
As you can see, I left some parts unshaded, it is for the lightest color in the reference photo.
7. Other details
I then added some details to the other parts.
Then...
8. Finalizing
some finishing touches
Then...
