Since we’ve arrived to Australia we wanted to visit also the island of Tasmania. It is winter now on the southern hemisphere and we were planning a trip in the summer, but we got an opportunity to travel to this island shortly after arriving to Melbourne. The journey was quite long because we were traveling with the ferry. After 12 hours and an overnight sleep on the ferry, we arrived to Devenport, a town in northern Tasmania. It was very early, before the sunrise and we managed to make a few stops and some beautiful pictures of the picturesque views of the beautiful Tasmanian landscapes.

We had only time to visit the capital town of Hobart and some of its surrounding attractions like the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. We arrived there on a very chilly morning for a tour where the guides gave us an informative talk about Tasmanian devils, koalas, wombats and other animals in the sanctuary. Sadly, the Tasmanian devils are facing a very tough time with Devil Facial Tumor Disease. Here at the sanctuary, we saw a number of species that are now sadly extinct everywhere but in Tasmania. After the tour and its educational part, we were wandering around to see the birds, and at the end we came across the kangaroos. It was great to observe and hand-feed them, especially the mother kangaroo with a baby joey in pouch.
