Fried Oysters 18th century Style
Oysters were a wildly popular food in the 18th and early 19th centuries. They were plentiful along the East coast and inlets. We were surprised, however, to learn that oysters were also served in northern Kentucky! Now up to this point, Jon had never eaten an oyster and was obviously not too keen on the idea. In this episode, Brian Cushing, from Historic Locust Grove in Louisville, Kentucky, prepares a recipe for fried oysters and explains how they made it from ocean waters onto inland dinner plates.
