☀️My Favourite Holiday: Fuerteventura! Part 3 🍔

in #travel7 years ago

As promised, here is the 3rd and final installment of my Fuerteventura diary!

If you can't tell from the previous two posts, I totally fell in love with Corralejo- the amazing weather, the ocean and the surf have me dreaming of packing my bags and escaping this cold London weather.

But not only those factors have me totally enamoured with the place, it's also the people, the atmosphere and crucially for a foodie like me- THE FOOD!

When travelling to any Spanish island, most veggies or vegans will feel a little trepidation, 'what will I eat?!' is likely to be a question that enters their thoughts constantly.

I went to Menorca the year before this trip, and was pretty much resigned to the fact that omelettes and chips were the only options for me on any menu. Not very exciting!

I need not have worried about this going to Corralejo, the town is extremely veggie friendly, not only do most restaurants provide veggie and vegan options, there are several cafes which serve solely vegan options. Incredible for such a small town on a Spanish island!

The best place I found for food was a burger bar called Single Fin.

After reading the reviews, I was expecting a good meal but the food here blew me away! As a vegetarian I expect there to usually be only one option for me on a menu- here there are numerous veggie AND vegan options and not a boring dry bean burger in sight! I actually visited several times during my week stay, trying different burgers each time and was never disappointed.

I had the Popeye, the chickpea burger (can't remember the name) and the El Capres burger which was my favourite- one of the best burgers I've EVER had, veggie or not. (And those who have followed my posts will know that I am a bit of a burger aficionado!) They were all so different in flavour, succulent and obviously made using very fresh ingredients.

Others in my group had the El Creible, the El Taxano and the El Capitan which were all excellent. They were so flavourful there was no need to put ketchup or mayo on them which is unusual for us as we love our condiments.

The fries were also insanely good, very crisp and perfectly seasoned and the bread is homemade and very fresh.

The service is very relaxed and friendly, the staff are great and very good at explaining the menu and giving recommendations.

I only wish there was a Simple Fin in London, I'm back home almost a year later in the bad English weather, still dreaming of sunshine and that tempeh burger! 😋

Apart from the food, which was glorious, the appeal of Corralejo lies in its hippy laid back charm. It is so refreshing coming from the hustle and bustle of a city like London, to a beautiful town where people have a relaxed pace of life, and place importance in leisure and sporting pursuits like surfing.

There is also a lot going on for such a small town, when I was there for example, there was a rock festival taking place in the centre of town which took place over 2 nights and featured punk, reggae, rock and metal bands from all over Spain and the Canaries.

There was a great community vibe, where people of all ages gathered to have a drink and a smoke and enjoy the music.

It's a small town, and a number of the restaurants and bars are located on the sea front so it is great to walk around and take in the view over a drink or a snack.

There are lots of gems to be discovered while exploring, like this monument to Mamanyou, who symbolises mother -earth and the link between nature and human beings.

The statue features the colours that make up Fuerteventura: the sea, sand, volcanoes, the earth and the sun.

Visitors are encouraged to climb into Mamandyou's arms and be ready to embrace nature again!

This monument was meaningful to me as I did feel like I was experiencing the full power of nature on this island- the powerful sun, the wind and the ocean, all the wondrous and uncontrollable forces around us.

I really loved my time on this amazing island and can't wait to go back and brave those waves again.

Thanks so much!

what a location, great beach photos.. and the food looks amazing, never heard of a chickpea 🍔 before!

Neither had I! They were seriously the best burgers ever😋 It really is an amazing place, so much to enjoy there and nice weather all year round, paradise!

Thanks for making me drool over the good food and treating my eyes to the deep blue sea.

Hehe you're welcome! I'm dreaming of the sea too, it seems a very long way away 😊

Haha, how far are you? Spain is the second home for Brits. ;)
Never seen the sea in England, though Grimsby was close to where I lived.

This island is actually off of the coast of Morocco though it is a Spanish territory- so pretty far from me here in London 😂

Ah, nice! Hope you see more places and treat us. I see too many Brits in Goa beach, India. Drinking by the sea. ;)

Added to my "go to" list for sure. Thank you for the inspiration

It should be on everyone's list I think 😊I would love to go there again and cruise around the other Canary Islands and spend a day or two exploring each one
