[dtube] How Much ETH Required to Stake Your Own Ether? - Answer from Vitalik Buterin Himself!

in #ethereum7 years ago (edited)

In this video, I'll be sharing an answer that Vitalik Buterin recently provided on Reddit around how much ETH you'll need to own in order to stake Ether once we get a proof of stake consensus mechanism in place.

DISCLAIMER: This is NOT financial advice. I am just offering my opinions. I am not responsible for any investment decisions that you choose to make.

***I am in the process of adding many of my videos from YouTube on to DTube. Apologies for any posts that you've already seen before!

Short answer: waaaaaay too much initially. It's a shame: people are usually excited to stake and 1000 is so far beyond the reach of the majority of ETH holders.

Other cryptos will let you stake what you have: Neo for example or Arc through delegated PoS. Psychologically, I feel beyond the feeling of getting "interest" it really ties you to the project an makes you less likely to sell.

Thanks for sharing the video! Any update since August on the timeline for sharding? 10 ETH is still beyond my personal reach, but that would certainly make ETH staking much more accessible! :)

Thanks for the information Louis. Having you on steemit is great because this is where I am spending most of my free time.

One question though - are they going under the sharding process currently or or is it a future plan for scalability?

Great stuff like always @louisthomas ! It is related to the fact that ether will go from POW to POS right? So it will be no longer minable? Sadly I did very bad movements with my really cheap ethers bought a year ago... And now I only own 1 :( better than nothing I guess...thanks for sharing this great info mate! Upvoted & always supporting your great content! Cheers!

That's correct Alberto. And thanks man!

Saw your screenshot but couldn't find the actual post in his log of reddit posts. Was it deleted?

Great... thanks for sharing this valuable info... I like your opinions. Thanks for making us know more about crypto world. Upvoted. Have a profitable time. Hugs from Spain.

What do you think about Nexus? I will try to buy some.

Great video, thanks for the info Louis!.

Potentially other ways of getting better returns than staking ether in my opinion. For example I will probably use something like Nexo (when launched) to buy other coins whilst still keeping ether for the longer term gains.
