The Italian Massacre: Secret of the Bastard Children (part 1)

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

Andrew Jackson Servier Jr. breathed heavily as he approached the grand pecan tree located in the town square. His eyes scanned the limp bodies that hang from the 50-year old tree. A couple of the hostages struggled, clicking their heels in convulsions, wincing in pain, wishing by the grace of God the noose would snap and they would plummet to the ground below them. As Big Drew stared, he took a drink of his moonshine, a concoction made special from Langston Rideaux's stove...a recipe perfected by his father.

Big Drew wasn't much of a drinker. The events from the past few days changed his perspective on alcohol, revenge, and death. The secret Langston revealed to Big Drew was hurtful. All of the Bible verses, all of the mentoring to young men, and all of the prayers could not put Big Drew's mind at ease. He was a tyrant at this point.

Behind the dangling bodies, Joe & Frank's Store burned. The gust of the midnight wind blew from the south, sending smoke northward. Infiltrating through the crowd of angry men like fog, coughs were heard as the scene became blurry to watch.

It was a warm fall evening, close to midnight, and The Italian Massacre was ending. The curdling screams had quieted. Soon, Big Drew and his followers would sleep off their rage, only to return a few hours later to make the bodies of Giuseppe Joe DeFatta, his brother, Frank, their cousin, Santino, and the eight other Italians disappear without a trace. Big Drew would soon return home to his hysterical wife, Mary Louise. Tonight, the people of Tallulah, Louisiana had spoken. Tonight, they wanted to rid the parish of the Italians. Tonight, they made it possible.

Big Drew looked over at his brother, Clayton. The smirk on his face proved that he wanted this massacre to happen. The very thought of it gave him a hard on.

Mary Louise packed frantically, gathering the children. They were young, unaware of the sadness, pain, and fear going on around them. Mary Louise didn't know where she was going. Her only plan was to make it out alive with the children.

When you finish everything you should look into self publishing. Bookstores have a local section with all the local authors and out would be amazing to see it on the shelf.

Thank you for the advice. I will definitely make self-publishing an option for me.
