Love's Epic Journey Through Latin America: Part 2 of the Ayahuasca Series, This is Not a Party Drug

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

"...most everybody throws up and feels really crappy at least part of the time so it's not a pleasurable, addictive type of drug."

says Bruce Dirmeyer, my long time friend and favorite shaman.

Bruce is a 70 year old retired chiropractor from Los Angeles who now calls the little village El Valle of Panama his home.

He has been hosting bi-weekly Ayahuasca journeys in his beautiful private space for a few years now. I have personally witnessed the respect and love he receives from the plant medicine community. Often he hosts up to 15 seekers and sometimes hosts guest shamans who lead the ceremony with their own style.

For more information about Bruce and his Plant Medicine Tribe click here for his Facebook then message him for permission to enter the tribe and receive invites to the ceremonies.

Another user of the medicine says in response to this being a party drug "Yeah if you like to throw up your demons at a party."

Ayahuasca facilitates healing and spiritual transportation.

The seeker enters into communion with the plant.
You see, there is much more to Ayahuasca than what's in the cup.

Therefore, this is just not a party drug. Is not even a drug.
This is plant medicine that must be respected.

After landing a position at a farm in Panama that legally grows and uses the plants, many people asked me if I can get them some. The question felt similar to when I was an experimenting teenager seeking LSD for fun and entertainment.

While spending a lot of time with Bruce, before I worked at the farm or used the substance myself, my energetic feeling about the medicine has greatly shifted to one of respect and a tool of deep healing.

As a result I'm putting together a series of blogs on Ayahuasca.
Part 1 talks about the best food to eat before drinking Ayahuasca.

Love's Epic Journey Through Latin America: Part 1 - Yucca is the Best Food For Vomiting - Growing, Brewing and Using Ayahuasca, Adventures On a Panama Ayahuasca Farm

I feel it's very important to begin by stressing the importance of acknowledging the spirit of Ayahuasca.

Coming to Ayahuasca is not for everyone.

It's a calling.

Ayahuasca is made from 2 different plants.
There are several varieties of these plants but for our purposes the most common are:
  • banisteriopsis caapi vine

  • psychotria viridis which is a bush also known as chacruna. This is the source of the DMT.

This blog series will include how these plants are mixed together to make the brew.

Once the brew is consumed the vomiting begins. This is a purging of letting go to begin the work. The spirit of Ayahuasca enters.

This spirit is referred to as "she, the mother or even Dr. Ayahuasca".

The medicine penetrates the ego, that is, takes you to death of the ego for rebirth.
It brings you to humbleness and forgiveness.

In other words, it frees you from egoic consciousness then moves the mind into a visionary state which allows one to have a direct experience of spirit in the spirit state.

This is not a biochemical reaction.
It is the spirit of the plants mixing together to create liquid spirit.
    There is an energetic ascension
    which allows for
    personal transformation,
    personal growth,
    learning and/or healing.

    In the ceremony there is
    positive transformation that
    permeates a person mentally,
    emotionally,
    physically and
    spiritually.

These changes are not only real,
    they are permanent.

    For those whom it helps,
    it helps deeply and directly.

When these changes are accomplished it's possible to

    enter the 8th dimension
where you meet luminous beings such as
    Christ, Buddha and the archangels.

He reveals to me, "The reason why it could never be a party drug. All the people I had been assisting during the ceremonies,
    that mentally where in a
    'position of curiosity',
only experienced very few things or
    absolutely nothing.
Medicine works with a mental attitude to remember who we are, where we come from and where we are going..."

Part 3 will discuss why a shaman and the correct setting is extremely important.

Is it a "I want to die" and "please, I'll do anything to make it stop" type vomit, or a "Well, now I feel better" one? I know it doesn't really matter which it is, but I'm just wondering.

Even with alcohol and other drugs, I absolutely hate that awful feeling. Why people binge drink or get themselves that sick will never be understood by me. They are literally poisoning themselves and paying a heavy price for it.

Does Panama leave him and his farm alone? I've heard of horror stories there like the one where a woman went to prison for simply possessing three pot seeds--not even the plant or the consumed product! My hope is that those stories are nonsense and the exception to the rule.

Thanks in advance for your wisdom and reply.

The vomiting is a purging. It feels like a relief to get rid of the stuff.

I don't get alcoholism either. Feeling drunk is a horrible feeling in my experience. My preference is definitely the cannabis.

I was hanging out with Rodrigo on the farm one day when the police came to the farm. He walked around talking to the two men for almost an hour. The whole time I'm wondering what's going on as they are speaking Spanish faster than my skill. After they left Rodrigo explains that the one policeman is growing his own plants and wanted to bring the other curious policeman to "check out" his farm and talk plants. He tells me they've been friends for many years and occasionally stops by to compare notes.

Interesting, huh?

Grateful for the comment. I'll be back in Panama late next month. We'll talk.

I'm glad to hear that they leave him and his business alone! :) My tickets for Anarchapulco are bought. Any chance you'll be there to meet me and my spouse?

Where's Anarchapulco? Anything is possible.

The event is 2/14/2019 through 2/17/2019 in Acapulco at the Princess Mundo Imperial Hotel:
