The travel theory
Everything we know and see as the external world around us is simply a projection of the internal world we reside in. That which we perceive as life is merely the process of exploration of our internal world.
Physical movement on the external plane is a shift in patterns of perception. Exploring the illusory exterior, we in truth tour our internal residence. Those who venture far and wide reside not amongst those who remain stationary in comfort.
There is a lesson to be learned with every step taken, and until that is realised, the doors through which wisdom enters will remain closed. This being the case, travelling is a key element of education. On one level, when we travel, we expose ourselves to different cultures, new people, exciting ideas and have innumerable thought-provoking experiences. All of this leads to the accumulation of a plethora of pieces of detailed information about the exterior. However, if we look at travelling as touring the internal world within us, we begin to see each step taken as something far more than that.
Whilst focusing our attention inwardly, we begin to literally see our mind and being, on the physical plane, manifested into everyday reality - that which is 'out there'. As we get accustomed to viewing the external as simply a projection of the internal, the line between the two gets thinner and thinner, until we realise that both are in fact one.
As far as science is concerned, each time a person partakes in new activities, there are new neural pathways being created in the brain of that person. At first, as we partake in new actions and activities, the neural pathways are weak, but with time, they get stronger and stronger; there comes a point, after enough repetition, where the neural pathway has fully developed and partaking in a given action is considered normal.
If we compare this - what is called neuroplasticity - to my theory, we begin to notice a lot of similarities; as we travel to new places - externally - new neural pathways get created in our minds. Likewise, if we choose not to travel, we forever remain stuck in the same neural pathways. As more and more neural connections are created, the development of the brain widens our perception of reality. Thus we come to see, that the exploration of the external world is tied in to the exploration of the internal.
What I have just talked about are my thoughts and views on travelling - my 'travel theory'. In the upcoming weeks, I will bring in examples of my past travels and study the relationship between them and this theory and neuroplasticity.
Hey @lukakorba, nice to meet you! I've got notifications for some key terms. The best one is 'neuroplasticity'. I find more and more clever content like yours since I did it. You've got yourself a new follower.
When it comes to your travel theory, or its main thesis as far as I understood it, I am indecisive. I am glad I found your text since this is actually something I am thinking a lot about lately. I want to travel. But since I started planning on it, a lot of crazy things occurred in my life that I first need to take care of before I can leave. When I complained to a friend about it, she said: "But you are already traveling. Don't worry about it. You're exploring yourself, deepening the knowledge about you. Everything that happens, happens inside of you anyway …"
That really got me. Because, as you mentioned yourself: Everything that happens outside is a reflection of what's happening inside. So I might as well start my journey there. Still, I want to travel and I am pretty convinced by your theory. While I am not …, well. Nice to meet you. My name is @mayb. ;)
Hey! Nice to meet you too! Thank you for stopping by.
It's nice to hear that you want to go and travel. What your friend said makes a lot of sense; there is always an inner exploration taking place within us. Whereabouts are you planning on travelling to if/when you do go?
Thanks again for stopping by and commenting! :)
