7 Steps To Apply To Develop Your Self-Confidence
If you have low self-esteem, you can take steps to help build it. It is a slow process, so you will have to be patient and determined. Gradually you will realize that you are a trustworthy person and that you deserve respect and be loved. Then you can take other steps to boost your self-confidence.
1. Change your perspective
We all have good character traits. There are many things in us that we can be proud of, once you realize that, then you can focus on your talents and learn how to express yourself. This could be done through art, writing, music or perhaps dance.
You have to find something you are passionate about, something you like to do. This can be: engage in a new hobby, or achieve a goal you set yourself years ago that you still have to accomplish. You surely have an idea in mind.
2. Examine your qualities
Everyone has qualities, and you have to take them into account. It could be your sense of humor, your ability to listen, or maybe your compassion for others. Whatever your qualities, you must be proud of them. Focus on your good side, rather than just considering your shortcomings.
3. Recognize your weaknesses
Although you may not want to think about your fears, writing them can help. Thus, you will be able to determine what you must fight against. These fears could come from your past eg having been bullied at school, or suffering from acne. Whatever the cause of your fear, once it is spotted, you can find a solution to the problem in order to move on to something else.
4. Ask your family and friends to help you
There are times when things weigh and influence your mood. So it's a good idea to have someone with whom you can talk. You will be able to verbalize your feelings and concerns. It is often after discussing things that you are able to put them into a new perspective. You can then pursue your quest to develop your self-confidence.
5. Accept your errors
There is no guarantee that everything will go well all the time. You may encounter obstacles or be restrained at any point in the process to develop self-confidence. So you must learn to accept it, learn lessons and continue positively toward your goal. Do not give up at the first hurdle.
6. Adopt Positive Thoughts
Instead of looking at the negative sides, think about the positive side of events. If you have negative thoughts, counter it with two positive points. Thus, you will develop the habit of thinking positively.
You should always talk about yourself in a positive way. Talk to people you meet about your goals and aspirations. Show them that you are a positive person. No one wants to listen to someone who sees only the negative side in life.
7. Do not compare
You do not need to compare yourself to someone else. We are all individuals, with different approaches to life. You need to focus on your own dreams and on what you want to achieve and get.
It is important that you set your standards and that you learn to be happy in your own life. Have positive purpose to excel in everything you do and exploit all your abilities. Thus, you will be proud of your success and develop your self-confidence.
Other things to consider to develop self-confidence:
• Learn to accept a compliment
• Start looking for more eye contact
• Take care of your appearance
• Smile more often
Another factor in order to develop self-confidence is to get rid of the negative in your life. Throw away the photos of your boyfriend if you have recently broken. If you have friends who undermine your morale, stop seeing them too often.
If you want to raise your standards further, you need to determine what level you want to target. You will then be able to begin to take care of this goal, and you will gain more confidence as you progress towards it.
However, you should not aim for perfection, as this would lead to obsessive research that can be problematic. You will never be completely happy if you are not able to accept the standard you have got by doing your best. Be proud of what you do in life and the decisions you make.
When you realize that your self-confidence has grown, you can start looking for new goals to achieve. Think about your dreams and write them down. Perhaps you have always wanted to travel, or maybe pass some exam? Maybe you want to have your own business, or learn a new language?
Now you can achieve these goals, which will have a positive impact on your life. You will find that your circle of friends is also growing because you will feel able to join clubs to discover new hobbies now that you have more self-confidence.
The main thing to remember to develop self-confidence is to thank you for what you have. It's a good idea to make you a list and watch it every week. You can list the positive elements of your life, such as your loved ones, your home, your car or your career. All the positive things you have done in life can help boost self-esteem and feel good again.
Spending time with people who make you feel good is an important part of self-confidence. They can boost your mood, help you relax and be yourself. So if you have friends who encourage and support you, try to spend more time with them. Thus, you will develop your self-confidence.
