Avoiding Science (so-called)

1 Timothy 6:20-21 (KJV)
O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

Two “sciences” seem to be on the front of everyone’s minds these days:
One of them is medical science
Every day a medical expert tells us what we have to do to avoid dying of the Chinese coronavirus. It is sometimes difficult to remember that these so-called scientists are merely giving their opinions. It is a practice, not a perfection. They make guesses and, though educated ones, there is an equal number of medical experts whose guess is almost the opposite.

The other is political science
It shows up mostly in the form of opinions concerning what the U.S. Constitution does and does not allow. Every one of us can read the Constitution for ourselves. The fact is, the U.S. Supreme Court has long embraced a dynamic interpretation of it. This means that it is not what the Constitution says that is enacted as law, but what the current SCOTUS decides the Constitution means in our time.

It is an error of faith for a preacher to become too heavily engaged in either of these sciences. It’s not our work. That which has been committed to our trust is the Word of God. We will not err concerning the faith if we keep to that.
