Our Perfect High Priest

Hebrews 5:9 (KJV)
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

The advantage and disadvantage of the high priests was that they were taken from among men.
The advantage was that they could have compassion on sinners because they too were sinners
The disadvantage was that, because they were sinners, they could only offer compassion. They needed a Saviour as well as any other

Enter Jesus Christ.
Eternal
Sinless
Deity

Jesus was called by His Father to His office
Jesus suffered in the flesh as men do
Jesus called upon His Father in prayer as men do
Jesus learned obedience as men do

Thus, being made perfect in manliness, He could be our perfect High Priest.
He is perfectly man
He is perfectly able to execute His office
He is perfectly able to have compassion upon us
He is perfectly obedience
He is perfectly prayerful
He is perfectly sinless so that
He was able once for all, to offer the perfect sacrifice for our sins
