Greetings and welcome dear readers, who follow me and accompany me on this journey that many of us call writing, after a couple of days of absence, we return with the desire to share with you, some advances in scientific and medical matters associated with the effects of smoking on the genes of the placenta in pregnant women.

In this regard, we will rely on a study conducted by the Institute of Global Health in Barcelona, which have detected a significant correlation between the use of cigarettes and the expression of genes in the placenta which ends up generating complications and in many cases adverse scenarios during childbirth.

According to researchers, periodic smoking during pregnancy is associated with patterns of chemical methylation of DNA, understood as a process that generates the adhesion of methyl groups to DNA strands, modifying their function and characteristics, This process represses gene transcription, which decreases X chromosome inactivation, as well as aging and processes associated with carcinogenesis, as well as those components that are attributed to responses to environmental changes, growth, inflammation and fetal development.

Based on the above and based on research statistics, every 1 in 10 women smoke during pregnancy, so that problems in the fetus are considered a public health situation, where methylation usually occurs on the basis of a cytosine followed by the amino acid guanine.

The research methodology was carried out with a population sampling of more than 1700 women, where the relationship and characterization of smoking with the gene expression of specific genes could be evaluated, generating overwhelming results since more than 400 sites associated with smoking were detected and in most cases the fetuses presented malnutrition, poor growth and malformations at birth, so based on different types of analysis, they were able to determine that these complications are generated as a result of a different behavior that presents the placenta to tobacco smoke.

Although the action of the active sites and their relationship with smoking have yet to be determined, it has already been possible to establish clear conditions on the effects of this bad habit on the health of the fetus, therefore, we will be attentive to new developments on the finding generated.

Hello @madridbg!
It is incredible how many people still do not recognize the damage that smoking causes to their health, and especially the care that women should take during pregnancy, as we must do everything possible to take it in a healthy way for the sake of the babies and avoid all kinds of complications since its effects are severe and can be avoided. Thank you for sharing such valuable information, greetings!

Greetings @yusvelasquez no doubt at the time we decide to bring a child into the world, we must ensure their welfare since it is in the womb of the mother until the when they get to make adults is the vision that should have a good parent. Thank you for the valuable contribution my friend. May you be well

The terrible health effects generated by smoking have been sufficiently documented, yet many people insist on continuing with this practice, even in a stage as delicate as pregnancy, it is important to continue making known this important information that you share with us my dear friend @madridbg

Hi @karupanocitizen as they well say knowledge is power and being informed allows us to achieve to arouse the interest of people who are not committed to their health and wellness in such a crucial cover as pregnancy.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your input

Many substances can pass through the placenta that will not have the best effects on the fetus. That is why it is so important that the mother takes the utmost care and eliminates practices that can cause harm to the offspring.

You are right @lynnmargullys the placenta is in charge of nutrition throughout the process of pregnancy, that is why through this travel all the necessary components from the mother to her child, so that if we smoke or ingest alcohol is generating serious damage to the fetus.

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your contribution

Smoking is a very bad addiction in normal situations and for anyone, and it has negative effects on health and body, but it is especially dangerous during pregnancy because it will harm the fetus and may cause long-term effects that cannot be reversed, so pregnant women should make sure that all of their habits are under control for their own health and the health of their fetus.

Very good comment @lennyblogs the effects have been well documented, however, we still do not pay attention to this damage that we ourselves cause to our body and that of our children in the early stages of their formation.

Greetings, thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment.
