Solomon son of David loved the Lord and obeyed his commandments.
When Solomon took over the reign of his father David, he wanted to be able to lead his people wisely, and this request pleased God. Because Solomon made such an excellent request and also sought the Lord, He gave him not only what he needed but more than he could ever dream of.

The Lord always keeps his promises; and he gave Solomon wisdom as he had told him.
Many of God's promises to us are by nature conditional: this is why Solomon demanded that if he walked and kept all his commandments by walking in them, he would keep his word.

The Lord had promised Solomon to make him the richest man of his time and he fulfilled this promise twenty years after giving it to him. For King Solomon exceeded all kings in riches and wisdom.

Despite so much wisdom; Solomon, like all men, had his weaknesses and this led him to fail God.
The word says that King Solomon loved many foreign women. Everything that the Lord forbade kings, Solomon did. This was the beginning of his great fall, and it was all because he stepped on the trap of giving up his beliefs in God and following the bad customs of the pagan nations with which he was associated.

But the Lord is gracious and merciful even in his judgment, and even when he raises an adversary against us, he does so not just to discipline us, but to bring us back to whole-hearted devotion. As Solomon did to raise up the Edomite Hadad as an adversary.
