Carmennah, The spirit of a warrior who never gives up

Good morning, my dear readers from the #Steemit artistic community. Happy Friday! I hope you are all doing great and, of course, having a wonderful day. Once again, your friend Manuel here is super happy to share a new artistic post for my blog. These days, I feel like drawing something related to the world of warriors to change things up a bit from the last few days. I spent a whole day sketching until I came up with the idea for this character, who is basically a fervent and impetuous warrior whom I decided to name Carmennah. a woman who years ago was separated from all her loved ones during an attack on her small village. Among the victims of the attack was her beloved husband, who died on the spot, while her two young children were kidnapped by the invaders to be used as slaves for entertainment in their combat arenas. Carmennah, who barely managed to survive, decided to become stronger and tougher. She devoted herself to learning the art of sword fighting, and over the years she became a powerful and feared warrior, who still holds out hope of seeing her beloved children again.
PROCESS / PROCESO

Well, as with every work, I like to start by working with a good sketch. In this case, I drew the main character, Carmennah, in the center of my canvas as if she were contemplating the full moon, when suddenly she hears a suspicious noise in the distance that puts her on alert and she prepares her swords. For the coloring, I started with a palette of more orange tones, applying soft strokes with my airbrush brush until I achieved good volume. Then, with my flat brush, I created slightly deeper shadows and occlusion shadows to give the skin a little more volume and depth, but above all, more realism.

For the hair, I used yellow tones to create a not-so-long blonde mane gathered at the back of her head. To do this, I first created volume in the hair using my airbrush brush, then with my bristle brush I gradually created the texture of strands with medium opacity. To create the clothing, I decided to work with slightly more opaque and muddy tones and used many rough brushes to create a slightly noisier and more rudimentary texture in keeping with the ancient era. Using green tones, I began to paint the base, creating a kind of long, thick fabric dress. then, with slightly darker tones, I created a kind of long sleeves on the forearms that were a little more complementary to the costume.

In the third stage, I focused on creating the weapons that the character (Carmennah) would carry, which in this case would be two swords. I drew one of the swords sheathed in its scabbard hanging on her back, while I drew the other in her left hand as if she were ready to use it. To do this, I started with a base of grayish-blue tones, and with the help of my watercolor brush, I created the texture of the metal, alternating light strokes to represent the shape of the blade with white strokes to represent the shine and sharpness of the edge. To create the sheath where one of the swords would be stored, I used more brown tones to replicate a fairly realistic leather-like texture.

Thank you for sharing your process. For sure we can learn a lot from you. It's also great to read and watch you.
I wonder about the characters name: what does -nah behind Carmen mean?
I wish you a creative weekend!
❤️🍀
Actually, Nah is a kind of signature or word that I like to add to some of my female characters when naming them, just as I also like to add lah) or (llah) when inventing names for them. This way, I think they have an even more unique and striking touch than just a common name, hehehe.
I'm really glad you liked the whole process. It's good to know that people like my work... Best regards ✌🏽

@wakeupkitty
Thank you for explaining. You are right, it's an easy way to change existing names into something exotic and it does make them more unique.
I wish you lots of success with your charaters.
A great, creative day.
ok sorry. I said, in spanish: "Hi Manuel, congratulations on your drawings! I love them! They transport you to worlds of fantasy and imagination, tales and legends from fantasy literature.
Thank you for sharing them here."
👍
Hehehe, thank you very much, my friend. I'm really glad you captured the general essence of my drawings. I usually like to draw many different things, but in the end, I always end up focusing on drawings with that vibe and style of characters from stories I read as a child... Best regards 👋🏽😃

Thanks a lot 🤠😁
I really love the whole art process, and Carmennah's story is so moving. She really had a tough time, and the loss changed her and shaped her into the warrior she became.
I especially love how you used the moonlight—as if it symbolizes her. That was a beautiful touch.
Thank you very much. To be honest, the moon wasn't really planned from the start. It was more of an added touch, as I thought it would give the character an even more nostalgic feel, and fortunately I was right... Best regards to you.
