Gamling was born in Rohan in Tolkien's middle earth. Gamling is the commander of Rohan's Westfold troops. Gamling with the his troop, participated in the battles of Helms Deep Hornburg, Pelennor and Black Gates. And Gamling has proved to be a very successful commander in these battles. The exact year of Gamling's death is unknown.
