Today the day started somewhat gray but without rain. However, in the early afternoon, the rain appeared and it is raining abundantly. Today, I share an iconic landscape from the Island of São Jorge. The photos were taken on the access road to the "Fajãs". These flat, highly productive lands, next to quite steep slopes, are clearly a trademark image throughout the Azores Archipelago. São Jorge is the island of the "Fajãs". Those who visit the island have numerous "Fajãs" to explore, some with more difficult access but still visitable. From this location, we can observe the Fajã dos Cubres, and further away, the Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo, two of the detritic "Fajãs" on the North coast of the island of São Jorge. The name of the first "Fajã" comes precisely from a plant with small yellow flowers, the "Cubres", which abounds in this area of the island. The Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo includes a small lagoon, known for its clams, the most famous delicacy in this location. This entire integrated ecosystem is classified as a Protected Landscape and a place of cultural and landscape interest. This extensive flat area can be explored on foot, as there is a pedestrian trail that connects the two "Fajãs"... I did it, repeated it, and recommend the experience!
