Skateboarding basic tricks: The Boardslides and the 5050 grind.

Good day to all!!

Today I want to share with you some of the photos of the basic tricks I shot at the local skatepark and at home in The Philippines. Basic tricks is very important if you want to progress with your skating. Me, I can do some of the basics decently, and it opens up a lot of variations if you want to take your skating to the next level.

First off is the Frontside Boardslide. This trick is probably the easiest trick for me. Easy because you can see the flatbar in front of you and it slides easily and fast. To do a FSboardslide, you need to be parallel to the flatbar and once you pop, give your body a little 90 degree turn. With the movement of your shoulder, you can get out to fakie or to regular. This photo below is a regular out.

Next is the backside boardslide. BSboardslides is the first trick I learned on the flatbar. I remember learning this trick on a curb at the Antipolo Plaza spot with @toffer. It is a lot of fun, and learning to slide this trick on a flatbar gives you confidence to try boardslides variations. To do this trick, the flatbar must be on your backside. Same with FSboardslides, pop a little 90 degree but this time on the backside. Here’s a photo me doing a backside boardslide.

Also, in doing boardslides, make sure the board si waxed so that you may slide and not stick! Here is @toffer making sure his board is waxed.

Up next is the 5050 grind. For me the 5050 is the most important trick on a ledge and rail. Through this trick you will learn a lot variations. Right now I can think of 20 different tricks involving a 5050! That’s how important it is. You can do this trick in two ways, either frontside or backside. Photos below.

Frontside 5050 is popping an ollie on the frontside of the obstacle and landing on your truck locked in on the edge of the ledge or rail. This trick relies heavily on your ollie. So make sure you got your ollies pretty good.

Backside 5050 as the name implies is another 5050 but this time popping in with the obstacle on your backside. I don’t usually do this trick, because sometimes I prefer to see the obstacle on my frontside.

Lastly, doing 5050’s the lock in is very important, you can feel the trucks locking in and this will give you a nice long grind. Here’s Rai 5050 trucks locked in.

These tricks are the basic tricks that can make your skateboarding foundation strong. Hopefully you learn something from me in this post.
