The largest known white shark is seen in Hawaii

in #animals6 years ago

For most, it would evoke some terrifying scene from Steven Spielberg's Jaws movie, but for a group of divers to see the largest white shark on the planet it was a unique opportunity to take their cameras and jump into the sea.

Called Deep Blue, the enormous predator is a 50-year-old female that weighs 2.5 tons and measures almost 7 meters in length. On this occasion, she was drawn to the coast of Hawaii to feast on a dead sperm whale.

The last time Deep Blue was sighted was in 2013, when he made an incursion into Mexican waters. It was there when a specialized team managed to get close to the specimen and put a tracker on it, something that now allowed divers in Hawaii to quickly identify it.

The conservationist photographer Juan Oliphant was one of the divers that was submerged along with the marine biologist Ocean Ramsey to achieve spectacular underwater shots of the enormous creature.

"I hope my photos help people question their perceptions and realize the beauty and importance of sharks. I would also like it to inspire the kind of compassion and connection with nature that we need to protect them and their environment, "said Oliphant.

Bendiciones

Martha
No swimming for me there.
I think I see teeth in the photo.
Not good to me.
