Superplants, Genomic medicine and Immune engineering
The term "GMO" has become one of the main horror stories for uneducated people around the world. The fear of a new and incomprehensible has given rise to a hysteria of such magnitude that in some countries, the cultivation and breeding of genetically modified plants and animals was forbidden, if this is not done for scientific purposes. The inscriptions "Does not contain GMOs" are placed on bottles of water and packages with salt.
But in normal states, genetic engineering continues to evolve. The technology called CRISPR allows to modify genomes of organisms, in particular plants, with unsurpassed accuracy, adding to them the necessary properties and eliminating unnecessary ones.
Imagine wheat, tomatoes, potatoes, apples and other important and simply tasty cultures that are not afraid of diseases and parasites, are able to survive drought, give more useful product, additionally enriched with the necessary substances, vitamins and trace elements.
Creating perfect crops is, of course, wonderful, but what about the perfect person? Genetic engineering can treat diseases, including hereditary.
You probably know that the work of our immunity is provided by T-cells, which find and destroy any muck in the body. More precisely, almost any. Some things are not immune to immunity, but properly modified T cells can destroy HIV, cancer and other diseases.
It is noteworthy that the T cells created in this way are well controlled. They can "sleep" in the body and turn on by command - introduced into the body of a special substance. To exclude accidental attacks on the body, they can be taught to attack only if two or more signs characteristic of cancer cells are detected at once.
Experiments on mice and human embryos have shown the genetic potential of genetic engineering, but there are also problems. In addition to improving technology that requires time and money, science is confronted with ignorance.
People are able to demonstrate a complete lack of common sense. They easily believe in completely refuted charlatanry, like homeopathy, but the really working, proven, explained medical methods, such as vaccination, are rejected and demanded to be banned.
We hope that one year later, when the best technologies of future will be released, the first medicine found on the list will be a medicine for stupidity.
